By the time I was out of the shower the voices had quieted down. They were done with what they were discussing, I paused the recording before going to get dressed. Once I was dressed I logged out of whatever that was and the phone entirely. I had to get rid of the phone before they’d think to track it. I connected my phone with the system so I could translate the recording. I let that go on and I just sat on the bed. It would take a while to translate everything and distinguish the voices. My stomach grumbled so I had to go to the kitchen to get something. The halls were empty and I thought everyone was asleep. I went down to the kitchen to the snack drawer. It was filled like always with snacks ranging from chocolate to cookies. I quickly grabbed a tray and loaded it with a bunch of cookies. I opened the fridge and grabbed a drink too. I got one from the inner corner so it was perfectly cold. I carried it up to the room and I noticed my door was open. I peeked into the room and noticed Ezra standing in the doorway. He was looking at my laptop were it sat on my bed and I was grateful that it had logged out. “Hey, why are you here?” I asked softly before dropping the tray on the bed. I sat beside the tray and patted the other side of the bed for him to sit. He sighed before closing the door and he sat down. I picked up a box and opened it. I took one and handed the box to him. He shook his head dismissively and I brought it to my laps and placed it there. I looked back up at him because he hadn’t answered my question. “This isn’t easy for you considering everything,” He said softly. He didn’t really know what happened that night but he had an idea. “I get why you would want to make this personal and take this all by yourself, but you’re not alone anymore. You have us and we are willing to fight for you”. He said and a soft smile spread on my lips as I took bite of my cookie. It was a chocolate chip cookie with coconut strips and it was really sweet. “You don’t need to worry about me, I’ll be fine and we will take care of all this together. I’m sorry for being mean to you, I was in shock and it all happened so fast”. I said took the last bite of my cookie. “I get why you did it but I don’t want you stressing about anything. I should have taken it easy on you”. He said and smiled at me. “Oh no, don’t go getting all soft on me”. I said and he laughed. He reached across the tray and got picked a cookie from my box and I shouted. I smacked his hand playfully and he winced. He took up the whole box and held it above his head. I tried to get it back without standing up but he was taller than me so it was a near impossible feat. He laughed at me so I had to change tactic. I moved my hand to his stomach and tickled him. He dropped his hands instantly and shied away from my exploring fingers. I grabbed the box out of his hands when he was busy laughing and I whooped victoriously. Ezra stayed for a few hours and we talked about random s**t that happened when I was away and we had a good laugh. We shared the snacks and ended up watching a movie. I had to move the laptop out of the way in order for us to have room to lie down. I missed this, the normality I had with Ezra was something I would never take for granted. After the second movie Ezra went back to his room because he had an early morning. I bid him goodnight as he went then went back to watching the movie. Ezra had mentioned sending Nate to get something done so I knew he wouldn’t be here tonight. I picked up my phone from where I had dropped it and opened it. I opened the text thread between me and Nate and shot him a quick text. ‘I miss you’. I waited for a few seconds before those three dots appeared. ‘Me too, baby. Wish I could be there tonight’. I smiled as I read it. ‘What are you doing tonight?’ I asked. ‘Ezra sent me to stake out a bar where they usually hang out’. He typed out a depressed emoji right after. ‘They won’t be there’. I told him. ‘And you know this how?’ He asked. ‘I went there and saw them leave’. I said rolling over on the bed. I hiked my legs up in the air and kicked them. ‘And you were here why?’ His question was accompanied by a bunch of angry emojis and I smiled at that. ‘To gather information’. I said adding an angel emoji for extra innocence. ‘Hell no. What have I told you about putting yourself in danger?’ A serious emoji followed and I laughed at that. ‘I was wearing one of my disguises. I’m certain no one knew who I was’ I said. ‘What did you find out? I could just pitch that to Ezra to save you from the drama’. I opened the laptop and looked at the translation. I scanned through it briefly before settling on the safest thing to tell him. ‘They are looking for an alliance’. I told him. ‘Tell me the whole thing not just the safe crap that you picked out’. I smiled. He knew me too well. ‘They are meeting with an American organization tomorrow at a hotel that I’m going to crash tomorrow’. I told him the only relevant thing I was able gain. ‘You’re not going alone again’. He said finally and I sighed. I knew he wouldn’t let me go that easily. ‘Fine’. I said finally. We’d staked out together before and it was fascinating. We made a really good team and I’d like to meet him somewhere less risky than at home. ‘Good girl, now go to sleep. I’ll be home really early’. He said. ‘Goodnight baby’. ‘Goodnight love’. I dropped the phone on the bed side table and turned off the light. I spent the next few minutes looking at absolutely nothing before I eventually slept off.
