Chapter 4:The moon’s choice

Aria clung to Kael's arm.It's enormous.

Kael kept his eyes on the creature.It's not just a wolf.It's a curse.

The Shadow Wolf's gaze swept across the battlefield before settling on Victor.For a heartbeat, Victor smiled.Then the beast lunged.No! Victor cried.

The monster swatted him aside as though he weighed nothing. Victor crashed through a stone pillar, coughing blood as he struggled to stand.

The Shadow Wolf answered with another roar.

He slowly lowered his fists.

The Shadow Wolf let out a low growl.I carried mine for twenty years.

Kael slowly lowered his hand to his side, leaving himself completely defenseless.I won't fight you anymore.

The growling stopped.

For the first time, the monster hesitated.

Moonlight poured through the broken ceiling, bathing the ancient wolf in silver light. The crimson glow in its eyes slowly faded, revealing weary golden eyes beneath.

A single tear rolled down the creature's scarred face.

Aria stepped beside Kael.

The Shadow Wolf bowed its head.

The darkness surrounding its body began to peel away like smoke carried by the wind.

A tall warrior, dressed in ancient armor, appeared where the beast had stood. His expression was no longer filled with hatred, only regret.

With a grateful smile, the ancient spirit dissolved into thousands of silver lights that drifted into the night sky.The curse was broken.

The battle was over.Yet Kael collapsed to one knee, blood staining the stones beneath him.

Aria caught him in her arms, tears streaming down her face.

His eyes slowly closed. The pendant around his neck dimmed.Rowan rushed to his side, placing two fingers against Kael's neck.
