Chapter 2

2398 Words
Sitting in the dining room with my father, his business partner and his business partner's son, I ate slowly glancing from my dad, the older guy and the younger guy, trying to absorb what they were talking about. We were having dinner together and my dad is doing a little match making. The boy kept glancing at me and smirking when our eyes meet, I just stop the urge to roll my eyes at him, and it’s rude to roll your eyes while eating. I think. My dad and his business partner are talking about work, obviously, so they didn't notice the grimace I gave to the boy when he winked at me. Ego much? He goes to my school, sadly, he didn't recognize me from the small amount of make-up I'm wearing right now with my hair slightly curled. I'm not surprised that he didn't recognize me, at school I wear these black framed glasses that always happen to slip down my nose. I also wear casual clothes while my face is free from make-up showing my freckled nose and my hair is always in a pony tail. It's kind of surprising from all the students' in Westfield that I bump into everyday they still don't recognize me from under the small amount of make-up and my let down hair. They must be retarded or something. Dad cleared his throat pulling me out of my little world; I stared at him, waiting for him to say something. "Thank you for eating dinner with us Mr.Zandz and you and your son , Jaxon, has been wonderful company." dad told his business partner, Mr.Zandz, with a smile that's obviously fake from how it reached his eyes. My father never smiles that big. "Isn't that right, Jade Emily?" dad asked and I kept myself from cringing from my middle name. I nodded, smiling softly, "Yes, it has been wonderful having dinner with you Mr.Zands and Jaxon." I told them, which I always say when we have guests over. I feel like a robot from always reciting it. Mr.Zandz chuckled, "Please, darling, call me George." and I nodded. Fighting to stop a grimace because he called me darling, I don't know what is it with these people that I just want to grimace all the time. Dad showed them out, leaving me in the dining room. I sighed, standing up and leaving the dining room to go my bedroom, when I got in I closed it behind me and locked it. Privacy is what I need after encountering that ego filled guy and feeling close business dude. I went towards my desk and sat down, to start doing my homework. There's many sticky notes on the board in front of my desk and some of them were: Have dinner with dad's business partner and son: Done Recite your script: Done Finish homework: almost Finish the werewolf project: Not even half way there. I sighed at the last part, there's no way I could do that in due date, no scratch that, there's no way I could do that. Like I said before, werewolves are myths! Mythical creatures made up by fools. I slightly jumped when I heard something collide to the glass door of my balcony; I stood up cautiously and walked towards the doors opening it, meeting the cool air. I went to the railings of the balcony and looked down to find Sophia. I sighed softly, placing a hand on my frantically beating heart. I should have known, no one can pass our house -ehem, mansion- security except Sophia, I don't know how she does it but she can. Sophia isn't in school today, I wonder why, and she's my best friend since we were little so she knows about my mother's disappearance, my little secret about the "double life" and how my father changed when mom's disappearance. She climbed up the vines that were leading to my balcony; I waited here until I saw her land on the ground of my balcony with a thud. She grinned at me, "How was school?" she asked and I placed my hands on my hips, "Where were you?" She shrugged, walking towards me until she stood beside me, "I skipped, Mr.Dalton is supposed to give me my punishment today because of the stunt I pulled yesterday with his chair." I laughed lightly and shook my head; Sophia leaned against the railing and looked at the twinkling stars above. "Then, he'll give you the punishment tomorrow." I told her while sitting on the chair here on my balcony. She nodded, "I know that but you'll plead to him saying that I'm innocent and all that, he'll listen to you, and you’re his favorite student who doesn't talk back." I rolled my eyes with a smile; she knows I won't do that. She pouted at me, already knowing what me rolling my eyes with a smile means. "Please? I'm going to try out for the football team; you know how big this is for me! I can't go to detention or I would lose my chance!" she begged me with her big brown doe eyes. I sighed, surrendering to her puppy dog eyes and nodded, she smiled hugging me. "You owe me," I mumbled while hugging her back. "I know." * * * * * * * * * * Parking my truck in the parking lot, I pushed my glasses to my nose and got out, fixing the strap of my bag on my shoulder. Sophia got out from the passenger seat while chewing on the snickers bar she found in the glove compartment. That was supposed to be mine. We started walking to the doors that lead inside the school when my eyes caught Jax's black spiked hair, he saw me looking at him and he rolled his eyes at me. See? He couldn't recognize me and I think he's gay, no dude rolls his eyes. He walked towards us making me freeze in my steps, Sophia doesn't move also while she stared at the black hair, green-eyed dude. Than looking at me and yelling that I'm a fake he looks at Sophia with a smirk, making me sigh internally in relief. I almost forgot that he's the football team's quarterback. "Be at the school field after last subject if you still want to be in the team, or maybe you should just stay in the sidelines while painting your nails." He smirks. I stop the urge to roll my eyes, I think he's more stupid than Amanda, the queen b!tch, to think of an insult like that. He walks away and walks towards his football friends all high-fiving them like he just won ten boxes of Nutella. Sophia just rolls her eyes while we continue our way inside the school. Glancing at Sophia she seems quiet, maybe she's nervous? Or she's captivated by Jax's gorgeous looks which I doubt. But I think they would make a good pair. With Jax's black hair and green eyes and Sophia's brown hair with an electric blue strand at the left side of her hair that makes her brown doe-eyes stand out. My best friend is a lively girl. Compared to my boring blonde hair and blue eyes, I look like a rejected Barbie from Mattel. We walk down the halls to our first class together which is Mr.Dalton's class, the teacher who's about to give Sophia her punishment for the stunt she pulled. It was hilarious actually. I just hope that Mr.Dalton would believe what sh!t would be coming out of my mouth or Sophia should just pray that Mr.Dalton would believe his favorite student's alibi. I'm not a teacher's pet, I'm just smart, maybe that's why my teachers like me. I mean, yeah, some students' don't like me, some hate me and some just plainly ignore my presence, it's not that hard to ignore me actually. But teachers always notice me because of my high grades and shy persona. I'm not really shy, just quiet and collected. But this persona really sucks because I'm always the target when playing dodge ball in gym class. The only class I don't have with Sophia. Sophia is the one who always fights off the b!tches who try to push me or break me. But they can't break someone who's already broken. When we were almost at Mr.Dalton's door queen b!tch bumped shoulders with me making me stumble a bit. She snorted and started walking away when Sophia stopped her, "Look where the f*ck you're going Amanda." Sophia curses, making me wince. I know I curse, but only in my mind, it sounds okay when the curse doesn't leave your mouth but when it does it's like nails on a chalkboard for me. "Shut up, Sophia. Can't your friend fight for herself?" Amanda sneered, glaring at me while saying that to Sophia. I didn't cower away from Amanda's glare, I'm used to glares actually, during parties my dad brings me to, many girls glare at me so I got the hang of it. I'm not sure why they're glaring at me, actually, maybe it's because I dance with a guy they like or I'm wearing a better dress than theirs, probably both. Sophia took a step towards Amanda and looked down at her -Sophia's pretty tall, so she's a few inches taller than Amanda even with her heels- "If you wan't to leave this argument with your tooth still connected to your gums you better walk away." She better listen because when Sophia threatens someone she'll make sure it'll happen. Amanda scoffed but fear evident in her eyes; she strutted away while her posse strutted along with her. Seriously? Is this a school or a catwalk? We walked inside Mr.Dalton's classroom and sat down at our respective seats, at the middle of the classroom next to each other. The bell rung and students filled in their seats just as Mr.Dalton came in, when he placed his things on his desk his eyes scanned the classroom until his eyes land on Sophia who smirked and waved at him. "Sophia, stand up." he ordered in this voice that you think that he's bored, Sophia did as he said while her smirk still on her face. Someday that smirk would get her in deep sh!t. "Detention for what you did the other day, for two weeks." Mr.Dalton said and Sophia glanced at me like saying "HURRY UP! TELL HIM SOMETHING TO GET ME OUT OF THIS SH!T" I stood up making all the students in the class look towards me, I internally groaned, I wish Mr.Dalton would just tell Sophia her punishment after class, he just wants to humiliate her in front of everyone. Mr.Dalton raised an eyebrow at me in question, I cleared my throat before speaking, "She can't get detention, sir, because..." I trailed off for a minute and Mr.Dalton waited for my explanation. I wish this is believable. "For a month she'll be driving me to my doctor!" I said loudly than I thought, Mr.Dalton nodded unbelieving, " and why would she be the one driving you to your doctor?" he asked with slight disappointment in his tone. What? Your favorite student is now lying? I bit my bottom lip before speaking, "Because my dad couldn't," "How about your mom?" "I don't have a mom." that made Mr.Dalton shut up, he pulled on his tie and stood straight. He looked taken back for a minute before nodding, "Y-yes, well okay... umm.. Sorry for bringing that up, Sophia is free from punishment and okay! Let’s start class." Mr.Dalton stuttered, obviously uncomfortable for my blunt explanation of me mom-less. The class was also silent my what I said, I mean, everyone knows I don't have a mom but I think that they're surprised that I said it without breaking down into sobs. I'm not weak, you know. Sophia and I sat down with a sigh while Mr.Dalton started our lesson for today, Sophia passed me a note and it read: Thanks for saving my ass there, sorry that helping me made you tell Mr.Jerk-face about your mom. I smiled at her and replied with a curt: it's okay. Even if it isn't at all. When class finished I went out of class with Sophia with me, she instantly hugged me, "I'm sorry! This is my fault! I should have not made you do that!" she rambled on and I laughed shaking my head. "It’s okay, just go to your next class, I'll be fine." I hope. She smiled nodding and walking off to her next class. I sighed, walking to my next class. This really is a suck-y day. *** After school I drove to the forest, I was supposed to drive Sophia home but I forgot that she has football tryouts so I just drove to the forest. Parking farther away from the forest's entrance I brought my camera walking towards the entrance and ducked under the police tape and went in, walking back to the clearing I was in yesterday. I opened my camera and looked around for any sign of werewolves, which I doubt. That kind of sh!t isn't real, I really thought that everyone isn't that stupid to listen to the myths crawling in the forest. I continued walking deeper into the forest, I'm not gonna get lost anyway, I know this forest like the back of my hand. I raised my camera and took a picture of nothing, when I looked at the photo it made my heart stop. Into the darkness there are silver eyes looking into the camera and when I look at it those silver eyes it's like it's looking at me, making shivers run through my back and goose bumps rise on my legs. I bolted out of the forest, obviously scared, passing the clearing and out of the entrance I went to my car and got in, my hands were shaking when I inserted the key to the ignition. I glanced at the forest one last time to see the silver eyes staring at me, I froze, we just stared at each other, no one moving, until I broke eye contact and started driving away from the forest while my heart beating frantically. While driving I thought, what the hell?
