I groan, food is the last thing on my mind. I look at the clock on the wall, it’s 4am. training is in 3 hours time and I regret even arranging it.

She was right. I smoke the joint then grab the bag and head downstairs to look for the kitchen. My body trembles and shakes the entire way down the stairs. I head to the kitchen and start the coffee pot and I go to the fridge. There isn’t much there so I make toast and eat in silence. Halfway through the first slice my stomach rolls and I run to the sink just in time for it all to come back up.
I try again but the same thing happens so I decide coffee will have to do. I head outside with my coffee and find a spot to lay down. I drink some coffee and smoke a joint and watch the stars. After a few minutes I hear a twig break and I snap my head in that direction and heave a sigh of relief when a man from my pack walks towards me. I sit up and he comes straight over to me.
“Mind if I sit?”
“Ofcourse, please do. Your name is Drew isn’t it?”
“Yes alpha it is”
I flinch at his choice of words his face softens
“Sorry, would you like me to call you something else?”
I smile and nod
“Maybe just for now call me Ailm”
“Ailm it is”
He must be in his 40’s, he has dark brown hair with silver flecks through it, his green eyes are dull with sadness, he’s well built and tall.
“Can’t sleep?”
I ask him, I cross my legs and pull out another joint, it’s the only thing keeping my shaking at bay. I hand him the bag but he shakes his head.
“Nah I’m good, but yeah I can’t sleep. Feels wrong to rest after everything”
“Did you lose people?”
He closes his eyes and his face scrunches up sadly. I instantly regret asking him and I squeeze his shoulder.
“Sorry, I shouldn’t have asked”
“It’s ok, just difficult to get my head around. One minute we were having movie night and the next thing we are under attack”
“Can I ask what you remember? I want to know how my parents died.”
I see another pack member out walking around. I wave them over, it’s a woman, around 20. Her face puffy from crying.
“If you can’t sleep you should sit with us”
I hand her the bag and she takes it and pulls out a joint. She sits beside us.
“Yeah I’m exhausted but my brain won’t stop”
“Yeah me too. Drew was just about to tell me what happened”
He sighs
“As you know we were having a movie night, me my mate and 2 girls”
He closes his eyes and tears run down his face as he remembers.
“The alarm went off so I new I had to get them to the bunker or out, so
We left the house, as we approached the house your parents and uncle and aunt were on the ground. I went straight to them, they had tears in their eyes. They said that they were preparing to leave for some party and as they left the house they were hit with darts. He told me to get out, don’t go to the bunkers, your dad linked everyone and apologised saying he couldn’t help and he was sorry, he said to get to deacons pack and he will look after us. So I lifted the girls and we ran to the forest, rogues surrounded us and I don’t mean hundreds I mean thousands of them, they killed everyone, even the kids. They started to take the teenage girls just as The former queen arrived and she screamed.”
He wipes his face of more tears then continued
“Most of the rogues died so she told us to run, get out and she would kill them, a lot of us just sprinted and some even made it out but thousands more arrived. They dragged my wife away kicking and screaming. She told me to run with the kids but I couldn’t so I got them up a tree and went after my wife. I fought with them but the sick bastards killed her so I went back for the kids killing as many rogues as possible. When I got to the tree they were shaking and terrified. I lifted them down and headed for the border but soon even more rogues arrived. They—“
He sobs into his hand.
“—they took one of my girls, I fought them but I felt a sting to my head and everything went dark.”
He cries harder so I go to his side and I hold him as he cries into my shoulder. He holds me tight as my own tears fall silently. He doesn’t let go but he continues to talk.
“I woke up and they were gone. I think they are still alive but when I tried to find them they had completely taken over the pack, they were having a party, they had patrols running the border. I climbed the trees and waited until they passed and I got out and came straight here but I need to go back. I need to get my little girls”
“Have you mindlinked them?”
I ask him, terror fills me when I realise they have taken his girls and heaven knows how many else. We need to get them back.
“It’s like they are knocked out, the link won’t open”
“The king will arrive tomorrow and the rest of the packs from my family, we will get them back we just need reinforcements and help”
I answer him feeling determined
“I’ll help, they took my baby and killed my mate”
She holds her hand in her face and she cries. I pull her over and she comes willingly, crying into my shoulder.
“I think I might merge packs, have trailers delivered until we can get home and open up the border for us all?”
Drew lifts his head, wiping his face.
“But you are meant to be alpha”
I shrug
“Maybe so, but we are stronger together”
“If that’s what you think is best we will follow you alpha”
I lay down bringing the crying woman with me, she rests her head on my shoulder and cry’s. Drew lays back to. Soon another joined us and another. Pack members came from every direction laying beside us and telling us their stories. We all held each other as we shared in our pain together. soon my eyes began to get heavy and I gave in to sleep.

“What are they doing?”

“But why are they all out here?”
“Maybe they just needed to be with pack”
I opened my eyes, the girl from my pack was still on my arm so I gently pushed her off, I stood up and looked around. deacons at the other end of the yard, when he sees me his face lights up but I’m so shocked to see so many people sleeping with us. I gently climb through the crowd
“What time is it?”
“7.30”
“s**t training, I forgot”
“Don’t worry they are all sleeping”
He answers, I can see that. There are people everywhere and they look so peaceful. I smile. They were my people and all they needed was each other. I move around them all and make it to the end where deacon is waiting on me with his arms wide. I fall into them and he hugs me. I smile and relax in his arms.
“Me and my pack made a decision last night”
“Ohh? And what decision is that?”
“That we want to merge with you, then open up the border when we get our territory back. We also have a bigger problem though”
He pulls back quickly holding me at arms length
“You want to merge? Are you sure?”
I smile and shrug, kicking dirt at my feet with my sock
“If you’ll have us”
He kisses me, taking me off guard but I relax into it and kiss him back then pull away.
“Well what do you think?”
“Yes, yes yes yes yes yes”
He holds my face in his hands and I grin
“Good we can go do that now then”
He laughs at me but i was serious, then his face fell slightly
“Oh you're serious, like right now?”
“Yep, because we have a problem and I need your help”
He takes my hand and we walk towards the house, the woman from the night before has a table set out and she’s placing a mountain of food onto it.
“Eat a little first”
He looks at me hopeful, for once I actually feel hungry and I walk past him and straight over to the lady, she gives me a Warm smile
“Hey Luna, looks like that sleep did you some good, I’m Zoe. We didn’t get properly introduced yesterday”
“Yeah it really did, who new sleeping outside with my pack would be so therapeutic, thank you so much for doing this it looks amazing”
She hands me a plate and winks at me
“There are so many willing to help, they arrived early this morning so we have been busy, I’ll finish setting it out and wake the pack but why don’t you get yourself something now”
I don’t answer I just fill my plate and look around, isla still isn’t here so I link her

Where are you, we need to talk. Come get food and eat with me

I’m in the kitchen helping, I’ll meet you on the porch
I smile, she stepped up to and I’m so proud of her for doing so. I grab my plate and head to the porch and I dig in, luca and aspen arrive and grab a plate then they hand me a bag of weed.
“That's all?”
They snort and roll their eyes
“No, we have the rest in black bags outside the car.”
I grin excitedly. I had spent a long time loving those plants and I’m glad I could take them with me. Isla comes out with a plate just as deacon, Mike and Jake take a spot on the ground to eat.
“So I made a decision with the pack last night and I found out some troubling news”
“Ohh?”
Isla says, looking at me.
“Well for a start I’m going to merge with deacons pack today”
Mike nearly chokes on his juice, when he’s done spluttering he grins
“Really? Your making it official”
I chuckle and nod then I look to everyone else and they are all smiling
“Of Course Isla will still be beta?”
I look to deacon and he punches Jake in the arm
“You up for it bro?”
Isla smiles brightly at him, he shrugs smiling back
“If that’s what Isla wants I’m down with that”
“Good, now to the bad news, not only did those sadistic f***s kill my pack, they also kidnapped teenage girls, kids and babies. We need to get them back”
Everyone freezes and I could hear all their heart rates pick up and hammer in their chest.
“They are alive?”
“I think so yes, for now anyway but we all know what they are going to do so we need to get them out of there today, when’s Arden getting here?”
“When training is over, they are bringing supplies, guns and an army, soph and Noah are coming with an army, our packs are too small but we brought a team of our best with us and Keagen is on the plane heading home. We will have everyone ready to go by tonight”
“How many are we talking about? Apparently there are thousands of rogues”
“Even more now, more started to move in this morning. Arden has scouts surrounding the area but he’s called all of the local packs. They are coming to fight too. We have enough to take them out.”
“How many have we got?”
I looked at deacon, I didn’t miss the flash of pride that crept up on his features before he shoved it away again to answer my questions.
“Around 600 are willing to fight”
“Ok eat up so we can get this merger underway and get everything organised.”
“You know he needs to mark you”
“I know he can do it after breakfast, but I’m smoking first that looks painful”
I shiver and they all laugh at me,
“Hang on, are you not going to do the dirty with him first? What if he’s no good and you can’t send him back”
Mike's jaw went slack, probably shocked at Islas bluntness, I chuckled and Deacon threw a sausage at her head. We on the other hand are used to discussing this stuff over breakfast.
“He’s her fated mate, it will be good even if he’s a virgin”
Luca told her
“Don’t use me being a virgin against me, least I’m not a hoe”
Deacon snapped. Luca chuckles but Isla zeroed her eyes in at Jake
“Are you a hoe? Or did you wait”
“Can we please have this discussion in private?”
She scoffs and waves him off
