Chapter 9- Tension

The ride back from the office had been an awkward silence. Laney wasn’t sure what had changed his mood to such a brooding silence. She could see his jaw was tense and he gripped the steering wheel as if he was trying to strangle it. When they got back to the ranch, Cody was short with her.

“I’m going to go for a run. I will be back in a little while. Go on in and make yourself comfortable.”
