Chapter 3

Chapter 3 Two minutes later, I get in, and luckily no one is inside. Memories of the man in the club with me invade my mind. Again. I remember his kisses and touches. How his fingers... Get a f*****g grip, Bella. I decide to think about the interview as I check myself in the mirror. My hair is perfect, and my white pencil skirt looks decent enough. I have a black button-down blouse that I have tucked in, making me look professional. The elevator dings, indicating I have reached my destination. I take a deep breath as I wait for the door to open and get out. I see another receptionist who looks like she would rather be at some other place. She is the total opposite of Emily. "Hi, I’m here for the inter-" I am rudely cut off by the bimbo, who looks to be underdressed. "Yeah, yeah, yeah, go to room 15D." She says this while looking down at her novel. A man comes next to me and calls Ashley, whom I assume is her since she hummed when she looked up, but her stance changed to a flirty one in a second. I almost let out a groan. Her boobs are showing, and I know if she shouts, they will burst out of the revealing top. I roll my eyes and go to look for room 15D. I see a man who looks so anxious sitting on one of the chairs, tapping his foot anxiously. "Stop that. Stop tapping your foot." I snapped after a while. It's so annoying. Yeah! I am so pissed off with everyone today. I go and sit on the seat opposite him. He smiles at me, but I only acknowledge him with a nod. I just don't feel like being nice. After about ten minutes, a lady comes out and calls Mr. Jackson, and I see the man inhale deeply before following her. I feel you, Mr. Jackson. He looks so nervous that I almost pity him. Keyword beingalmost," but I also need the job. I need to move out of the shitty apartment, and I have a college loan to pay and some more expenses. My foster father, whom I came to love, is in the hospital and was recently diagnosed with leukemia. His medical bills have drained my account, but I never mind. He took care of me with all the love I never got from my shy parents, and now it's my turn. His wife and daughter died, so he decided to adopt me. I am his daughter's replacement. But I never cared. He loves me so much since I remind him of her. Mr. Jackson comes out ten minutes later with a neutral expression. I tried guessing the outcome to no avail. The lady emerges seconds later and comes to me. "Ms. Styles, right?" I nod my head. "Indeed it is." I try to cool down the tension, but the woman gives me a tight-lipped smile. UH OH! "Follow me!" I get to my feet so fast, and soon I'm following her. We get into an elegant office as she goes and sits behind the desk. It looks like she is my interviewer after all. "Mr. Kings would have been here personally to interview you, but he was caught up somewhere. After all, he's a busy man." I don't mind. I heard Sydney Kings is a scary man who has the world running under his feet. A ruthless man who cares about no one. I'll make sure not to pass him. I am clever enough to do that. The interview drags on for about five minutes when the woman keeps on mocking and taunting me. I have impressive grades, and I am so proud of myself, but she is getting on my nerves until I finally snap. "Excuse me, Ms., but I would really appreciate it if you stopped your attitude. This is not being professional by trying to mock my clothing and school records." I really need this job, but screw it. I rise from my seat aggressively, take my documents, and leave, only to collide into a wall. All the documents go flying all over the place. 'Great! I f*****g needed this.' Note the sarcasm. I bend to pick them up when I notice shiny dress shoes in front of me. They look so expensive, and I try to resist the compulsion of raising my eyes to look up. I took everything and stood up to mesmerizing gray eyes that held so much anger, but I remained immobile when I recognized him. "You're fired." And now I'm confused. I never got over the interviewonfused. I never got over the interview. No one moves, but the man's eyes never leave mine. Is he really talking to me?" Pack your things and get going, Ms. Kendall. " His eyes never leave mine, but I don't mind. He looks the same, only now instead of being happy, he looks so stressed and emotionless. His face is still handsome, though, and I preferred him when I met him at the club. He looked so carefree. "Sorry, Mr. Kings. There is a mis-" My eyes widen when I hear his name. "M-Mr K-Kings? You're him?" Oh no! I turn around, trying to massage my temples. Should I pretend to faint? I can't get the job anyway. Maybe I should just leave. I decide to leave, but he holds my hand, preventing me from doing so, and this time I really do faint. I wake up in a larger office that is themed in black and white. I look around, trying to register what happened. "Look, who's got the grace to wake up now?" Mr. Kings says it in a mocking tone, and my forgotten panic comes back. "I'm so sorry. I have no idea why I fainted. It must have been since I never ate my breakfast or something. I know I wasted your time, and I have to leave." I know I'm a rambling mess, but that's what I do best whenever I panic. Mr. Kings comes to me and gives me a passionate kiss, leaving me breathless. "Have you been with another man, Isabella?" I give him a ridiculous look. Did he just Who is he to ask me such questions? "What does my private life have to do with this, Mr. Kings? I only came here for an interview. Not some drama or surprises that I didn't ask for." I take my purse and leave without looking back. "You'll be mine, Isabella Styles." He says it like a promise that makes my heart beat so fast, but I still ran. I go straight to my shitty apartment. "You’ll be mine, Isabella Styles." His voice is now haunting me! Why would he want someone like me? I change into a large t-shirt and some yellow sweats. ‘I really need a job.' I tell myself as I think of what to eat. I make some spaghetti with lots of cheese. It looks like I’m going for cheese, then. Since I knew I wouldn’t cook again till the next day, I decided to make lots so that I could just heat them up later. That’s pretty much how I've always survived. I suddenly feel some pain in my lower abdomen, but I ignore it. Maybe it's just my period. They have been a week late after all. I eat my food and decide to go buy some pads. It’s always good to be prepared, after all. I put my hair in a messy ponytail and took my beaded Masai sandals that my best friend Harry got me on one of his travels to Africa. He is a photographer who travels everywhere. I have known him through my adoptive dad. He is his nephew, whom I love like a brother and treat as my best friend. Yeah, I know. I have a boring and unsocial life. I get the pads that I use and some ice cream that I instantly want. I am running low on money, and I know I have to pay the bills and rent, but I really can’t resist taking it. I try to ignore it twice when I go to pay for my pads, but I go back for it until I just decide to take it. Screw bills and rent. I really want ice cream right now.
