Ngaa! ( the shining one)

It was long time ago when the tribe of Amiiru was ruled by a powerful group of witches who united all the nine clans of the tribe (igoji, imenti, tigania, mitine, mwimbi, igembe, muthambi, Chuka and tharaka). They all practiced good magic and anyone found in possession or using evil magic was burnt on the stick together with his or her family.

The witches had the power to detect when anyone was trying to use magic and for what purpose. Every year on a full moon all the nine clans would give up a daughter who would get trained to be the most powerful witches on the land. This daughters had to be selected carefully to punishment from the gods of the land.

The daughters had to virgins who had just began flowering. It was a rule for the witches to remain virgins till death, not to fall in love and to never posses earthly riches. It was the tribes duty to take care of the witches as they were ranked after the gods.

Mugwe was the community ruler who was selected by the witches to govern the tribe of Amiiru.

There was a young beautiful woman by the name Ngaa' who had been prepared by her parents to become a witch ever since the day she was born. Her parents made sure she attended all the young witches training with the little they had.She came from a poor family and she hated herself and her parents for that. Other children always made fun of her torn clothes.

She was very bitter that she swore to punish anyone that she hated once she joined the powerful witches. The full moon was near and everybody in the whole tribe was excited about the celebrations of the selection of the young witches. Ngaa was excited because she knew she would pass all the obstacles, she was among the best in her class

The day of the selection finally arrived and everyone was in a joyful mood as the gathered at the community center to witness the young girl prove themselves worth of joining the powerful witches. Every clan had provided four daughters to challenge each other.

The young daughters had to pass four test. The first test was the test of love. The daughters had to destroy their most loved item on earth. Ngaa wasn't hesitant to kill her beloved cat. she didn't even show any emotions.

Test number two was to prove that the daughters were virgins. This was to be carried out by experienced mid wives. Two daughters from Ngaa's clan were disqualified. Ngaa's biggest rival was still in the competition and she wasn't happy about it. She started scheming of ways to destroy the enemy.

Test number three was to prove ones knowledge of a few simple spells. This was the only chance she had to destroy her competitor. When everyone was reciting their spells Ngaa cunning used her power to sabotage the other daughter who was kicked out of the competition.

Being the only daughter left from her clan she was immediately declared the winner. One old witch suspected foul play but because she didn't have any evidence she decided to investigate by herself. The selections were over, Ngaa and her parents were over the moon with happiness.

In the middle of the night Ngaa snuck out to go and meet her lover to celebrate her big victory. Mugwe was happy that Ngaa who was his lover was selected. He knew that the evil plan he was planning against the witches was just beginning.

Mugwe has planning to over take the witches but was afraid of being detected. With Ngaa he knew his plan was about to succeed.

He had done enough research to know what can make a witch all powerful.He told Ngaa all about his plans which she happily agreed to. She was promised to be made the only high priestess in the whole tribe. She loved Mugwe and was willing to do anything for him.

It was on this night that Ngaa lost her virginity after taking the oath of loyalty to the witches. An evil power within her was conceived making her the most powerful witch. The older witch who had suspicions on Ngaa had placed a tracking spell on her and decided to follow her. She witnessed the whole ordeal.

She ran back to the witches house to tell them of Ngaa's actions. They were furious and scared at the same time. A council meeting was held to discuss Ngaa's actions. It was unanimously decided that Ngaa was to be burnt alive on the next day.

Guards were sent to arrest both Ngaa and Mugwe that night before they had a chance to start a coup d'etat.

Early the next morning the whole tribe was gathered. Ngaa and Mugwe were exposed. Mugwe was beheaded and Ngaa was torched.

" I shall be reborn every year on this day until the day will take my revenge on you all" she cursed before the flames consumed her.

The whole tribe was shaken. From that day henceforth any female child born on the day Ngaa died was immediately killed.Ngaa's family was spared but banished to never return.

On that day an uprising against the witches was born. A few of Mugwe's family and friends were not happy about the death of their keen and they swore to destroy the witches no matter what it costed them.
