CHAPTER 3
I JUST BOUGHT THE MALL FOR YOU.
“Yes, I'm coming to get the documents in the next fifteen minutes. Adrian's voice echoed from the room.
Emerald raised her eyes to the wall clock and saw that it was just 6:30 am.
“Did this man ever spare a moment for himself?” She thought, because he has been on call since 6:00 am, and from all she could capture from his calls, he has more than four meetings in his schedule before the day runs out.
Reluctantly, she stumbled out of the bed and began cleaning her room.
“Come in,” she answered as soon as she heard a knock on her door.
“Ahhh!” The maid raised her brows and covered her gaping mouth with her two hands.
“Please, you can't be doing this, ma'am,” she said politely with a fearful look in her eyes and hastily grabbed the broom from Emerald.
“I'm afraid Mr. Adrian would terminate my appointment if he should see you doing this by yourself,” she explained.
“Please, don't hesitate to call my attention whenever you need any assistance, ma'am,” she added. They were still talking when another knock came from the door.
Emerald slouched to get the door opened, and she came face to face with the most handsome man she had ever seen in her life.
Instantly, she became seemingly enchanted by his dark, curly hair, which, alongside his brown eyes and pink lips, accentuated his handsomeness.
“Good morning, Mr. Adrian,” Emerald greeted with a smile that couldn't hide her charming dimple.
Adrian stared at her without a word. The lingerie he got for her from the 247 supermarket last night looks absolutely good on her
.Emerald watched his confusion as the eyes that were staring at her lowered their gaze at her partly opened lips.
Unconsciously, he dropped his suitcase to the floor, and his hands gradually trailed her face until he held her back and closed the distance between them for a kiss.
It was unfortunate; Emerald had no intention of kissing him. Immediately, she thrust her fingers in his lips and pressed her other hand on his chest to stop his advances.
Adrian looked at her in surprise.
He least expected her to stop him, judging from the way she was leering at him when their eyes met.
Emerald smiled at his confusion, and her fingers concisely swirled over his chest, causing his heart to flap.
“You'll be late for work, Mr. Adrian,” Emerald said flirtatiously with a flinch.
“gh m…gh m…gh m. Yeah, you're right,” Adrian said and cleared his throat.
Immediately, he redirected his gaze towards the maid, “Tasha, you know how I hate it when one disobeys my orders, right? So make sure she lacks nothing if you still love your job,” he said huskily.
He turned to Emerald immediately, and his forehead crinkled.
“Is there anything you'll need to tell me before I leave?” He asked, pinning down his eyes on her.
Emerald lowered her head, contemplating where to start.
“Uhmm, nothing. I just want to say thank you for yesterday,” she said casually.
“Are you sure?” He responded in question, which got Emerald worried.
“What did he actually expect her to spill?” She thought and remained silent.
“We're married, right? This is our honeymoon, and I'm sure you know what that means.” He said, adding more confusion and fear to her thoughts.
He turned to the maid again, “Tasha, make sure you move her things to the master bedroom before I return,” he instructed.
“I…I…I,” Emerald bit her lips and stuttered. She wanted to tell him about the pregnancy, but her lips couldn't voice out a word.
“You want to talk?” He said coldly with his darkened eyes fixed on her.
“Never mind, it's nothing important,” she concluded and flashed a smile at him.
“Well, that's good,” he replied and tossed his hands into his pocket, taking out a credit card.
“Here, I know you'll be bored, so use this and visit any mall of your choice. Besides, you really need some clothes, don't you?” He asked.
“Don't forget that you're now the president of the Globex corporation, and you'll be signing a deal with the Nedly group tomorrow. Do well to get a good outfit for that,” he said, and without another word, he bent and picked up his bag.
“If you'll excuse me, I have some really important things to do at the office,” he concluded and left.Still in shock at how he's giving her the treatment of a queen, she tossed the credit card into her bag after much thinking.
Without hesitation, she took a quick shower and decided to drive to Tropicana, a classy shopping mall she had never been to before.
She received a warm welcome, which appeared to be different from that of other customers who walked in at the same time with her.
Emerald went straight to the jewelry aisle and picked the ones that caught her fancy.
As soon as she finished, she decided to browse through clothes and shoe aisles, where she nearly bumped into Sylvia, who was picking some clothes at the toddler section.
Immediately, she averted her gaze and turned on her heel to leave; she'd rather go shopping somewhere else than share the same breathing space with the woman that destroyed her home.
“Emerald,” Sylvia yelled.
“What the hell are you doing here?”
Emerald ignored the creaky voice and continued to move until she stumbled upon Dennis, who was rushing to go see why Sylvia was shouting.
“Emerald!” he exclaimed with horror and froze; so did she.“What are you doing here?” He asked.
At this point, Emerald was already getting pissed off by their irrelevant questions.
“And what do people come to do in a shopping mall?” She questioned him back and moved to grab the pricey gown that had been stealing her attention.
“Emerald! Don't you dare walk out on me while I'm still talking to you!” He barked and grabbed her wrist tightly. Emerald could feel the pain of her bones breaking.
“What else did you expect her to do here, if not to steal?” Sylvia cut in.
“What! Have you two lost your minds? Now, let go of my hands!” Emerald scoffed and dragged her hands out of his grip.
“You thief! You left with nothing yesterday, and now you're picking goods worth millions of dollars?” He barked and rolled his angry eyes at her.
“Wait, the purse, the clothes you're putting on, where did you get all those things?”
“You broke into a*****e last night and stole them, right? Unfortunately, today is not your lucky day!”
“Security! Throw this woman out! She's a thief,” Dennis reprimanded and seized all that she had picked.
“Dennis!” Emerald cried; tears filled her eyes as a group of onlookers gathered to steal glances.
“We're sorry, ma'am, you just have to leave. He's one of the partners of this mall, so we have to obey his orders,” the chief security said as he forced her out of the building.
Emerald had never been so embarrassed like that in her entire life.
She fumed and moved straight to her car.
With her trembling hands, she leaned on the car and placed a call to Adrian.
She knows that he can do something to pin Dennis and that b***h in their place.
Her heart began pounding in her chest as Adrian didn't respond to all four calls she dropped for him.
She was about to marry her shame and leave when Adrian's call came in.
“You don't call me like that when I'm in a meeting. Is there any problem?” He said curtly as soon as she picked up the call.
Emerald felt depressed at his coldness but didn't stop her from speaking her mind.
She began to sob intermittently, “I did just as you suggested, but unfortunately, I bumped into Dennis and Sylvia. They accused me of stealing all the things you bought for me last night and threw me out,” she explained.
“What!” Adrian exclaimed. She could only imagine the rage in his eyes through his voice.
“Which mall is that? He asked.
“Tropicana shopping mall,” she answered.
“You know what, give me a minute and make sure you remain there,” he instructed and hung up the call immediately.
Emerald fixed her gaze on her screen, impatiently waiting for Adrian's call.
After five minutes, she did receive a call from Adrian, and she answered quickly.
“You're now the new CEO of Tropicana. All partnerships have been terminated, including that of Dennis. You're free to go.
“Go back and do anything you want in there,” he said and hung up the call without waiting for any statement from her.
