CHAPTER 4
I'M JUST STARTING
Emerald couldn't stop gaping as she stared at her phone. Everything she just heard sounds like a dream. She flinched and wiped her face, and reality dawned on her when she checked her w******p messages and saw the receipt of payment alongside the change of ownership that Adrian had sent to her.
A wave of excitement flushed her face.“Wow! So I can do anything I want, right?” She smiled and nodded pleasantly.
Then, she pinned her car and sashayed towards the security guards.
Before then, she had noticed how the guards suddenly threw weird looks at her as they scrolled through their phones while she was still hoping for Adrian's call.
Immediately, they rushed to her and lay flat on the ground. “We're truly sorry over what happened earlier, ma'am.”
“You can give us any punishment you like, but please, don't lay us off. We were only following instructions,” they pleaded.
Emerald's heart burned with rage as she remembered how cruel they treated her, but then she realized they were actually right because they're just common employees.
She glared at them for some seconds before she instructed, “Follow me.”
“Thank you, ma'am,” they said happily and followed her behind as she wiggled into the mall. She found Dennis and Sylvia addressing the front desk staff, and then she tapped him on the shoulders.
“You again?” His voice thundered as soon as he turned and sighted her.
“Security, didn't we ask you to throw this woman out?” Sylvia cuts in with a yell, but to her greatest surprise, the guards stood behind Emerald without making any moves.
Sweetly, Emerald smiled at the couple and said, “Ha-ha-ha-ha, you see, unfortunately, you are the ones to get your dirty selves out of my mall, now!”
She raised her voice and ordered,“Security, throw these two fools out of this place now!” She yelled.
Immediately, they grabbed Adrian's and Sylvia's arms, forcing them out like criminals.
“How dare you obey this woman and lay your filthy hands on us? Don't you know that I'm your boss?”
“Not anymore, sir. You two just have to leave!” The security replied wittily.
“Ha-ha, did you just say boss?” Emerald interjected with a smug laugh.
“I just bought this mall from the CEO now, poor Dennis!” she added.Emerald heaved a sigh of relief and felt a warmth of accomplishment as she watched the guards bundle Dennis and Sylvia out like some piece of trash.
When Adrian promised to give her everything once she married him, she never envisioned that her request for revenge would be granted this soon.
Well, she was sure of one thing with Dennis: he never backed down easily.
She watched and smiled at how he was gasping like an award-winning athlete with his rumpled shirt, which almost got torn apart as he struggled with the security guards.“You, Emerald,” he turned and glared at her with bloodshot eyes.
She wanted to laugh at his current appearance but forced herself to bridle her lips.
“I swear, you'll never go free with this,” he threatened and shamelessly drove off with his lover.
“Wow! So this is how good it feels to be married to a billionaire, huh?” she muttered to herself with a grin before going back to the mall to continue her shopping.
How Adrian was able to bypass several protocols and terminate all partnerships to buy the mall for her just with a call was still a thing of surprise; she couldn't get it off her head.
While she continued her shopping, several members of the staff accorded her the due respect and almost fell on each other as they struggled to please her by helping out with the selection.
“Oh, Dennis. If I were you, I would take this as a great lesson and never attempt anything again!” She thought to herself and sighed with satisfaction. As for Dennis, he just had his last piece of patience worn out.
Seeing Sylvia by his side as they drove home, he wished it was possible for him to open the door and throw her out!To him, he believed Cynthia was the cause of it all; everything would have been fine if she had ignored that witch from the beginning.
“Honey, don't tell me you're still worried about what just happened; you can't let the actions of that b***h to ruin your happiness!” Sylvia scolded him as soon as they reached home.
“What I expect from you now is to sit and prepare for how best we'll show that b***h a lesson once we sign the multi-million dollar contract tomorrow,” she added.
“Yeah, you're right,” Dennis answered and smiled suggestively.
“You see, that's why I can always boast of you as the best. Please, get me a cup of coffee,” he added as he sat on the couch.
Immediately, his hands reached the television remote on the centre table and he didn't hesitate to turn it on.
While blowing the hot coffee Sylvia had served him, he decided to scroll through his phone for business emails as he waited patiently for the television to finish booting.
Soon, his phone began to ring. It was a call from his secretary.
“Hello boss, thank God you picked up,” the secretary said in panic.
“Hey, calm down and talk to me in a language I'll understand,” Dennis reprimanded coldly.
“Alright boss, the thing is… I just received a call from the event center now that the reception hall is no longer available for $50,000, except we pay $150,000!” The secretary explained.
“What? That's bullshit! That can't be possible! In fact, call our lawyer. We're suing Mr. Whyte in court!” Dennis declared angrily and hung up the call.
“Malvin, what is it again!” Dennis fumed when his secretary wouldn't stop calling him.
“Sir, Mr. Whyte is no longer the CEO of Brooks Event Centre. I just confirmed that he sold it to Mrs. Emerald before leaving the country yesterday,”
“Hold on,” Dennis cut in.“Did I just hear you correctly? Which of the Emeralds are you talking about?” Dennis asked impatiently. His head began to spin with the feeling of a familiar headache.
“Mrs. Emerald as the CEO? No! This can't be!” He cursed under his breath.Instantly, he lost interest in the television and got up and walked fleetly to his room. His mind was giddy.
“Perhaps, it is not his Emerald. Besides, Emerald is not an uncommon name, as there are thousands of women with such an identity,” he thought, and his rapidly beating heart slowed down. But he still has to confirm his doubts.
“Get me the new CEO's full name,” he instructed the secretary as soon as he picked up the call.
“One more thing, sir,” the secretary said rapidly before Dennis would hang up the call as usual.
“The said Mrs. Emerald is ready to refund our payment in full if we won't succumb to her demands. And above all, I also received a call from Globex Corporation that they've received some better offers, so if we still want them to sign the project deal with us, we have to s***h the initial agreed amount into two, or else they'll be forced to opt out of the deal,” the secretary reported.
“Nooooo! All these can't be happening at this crucial time!” Dennis screamed, and the cup of coffee fell off his suddenly trembling hands. His trousers got soaked, and one of his toes began to bleed as a result of the cut from the fragments of the shattered cup.
Dennis felt like commanding the ground to open and swallow him; that way he could forget about all these misfortunes.
He pondered everything for a while. It was literally impossible for him to get another good event center in such a short period of time, and for the deal with the Globex corporation, a half-baked cake is better than none.
Immediately, he reached out to his secretary on the phone and instructed, “Let's not be stingy. We can still have enough profit share even with the reduced payment, so just pay the new requested amount for the hall and say yes to the Globex proposal.”
“Sure, sir,” the secretary responded, and he carried out his assignment after the call.“Tell me, are you happy now?” Adrian looked directly into Emerald's eyes and asked, as all her plans were falling into place.
She smiled flirtatiously at him.
“I'm super grateful, Adrian,***” she confessed.
“For now, I'm happy, but my joy would be complete when I see the excruciating pain in Dennis's eyes tomorrow, once he realizes I'm the one behind all his ups and downs. To make it worse, I'm still not going to sign the deal with his company. I just have to allow him to waste his time on guest entertainment, first.” Emerald declared with a smile of accomplishment.
