CH.4 Soulmate

Time seemed to stand at a still as they gazed into each other's eyes, Braelynn hesitating before pulling her hand away the pins-and-needles feeling crawling up her arm and striking into her chest. He looked momentarily disappointed and when starting to open his mouth Braelynn stepped back, her heart starting to race as her mind panicked. "You're my...soulmate." A smile started to tug at his lips as he spoke and it took all her resolve not to feel any thrilling delight, "My name's Carwyn, but everyone calls me Wyn for short." Braelynn tried not to laugh out loud but felt herself smiling at the possibility, only sparking Wyn's confusion. "Braelynn." "Hey our names sound similar!" They both grinned at that before feeling the air between them once again grow denser, Braelynn was holding it together but only by a thread. No point denying she couldn't feel the pull to him because it was most definitely there but it was growing dangerously quick, too quick. "So what Gate are you from?" It was a simple answer really but in her mind it was all static, shaking her head and brushing her hair back. "Golden Gate Butterfly." Each gate to the other sides of the world had a symbol in the middle of the arch, there was six gates and each one had a unique symbol. Butterfly, Feather, Claw, Dragonfly, Ladybird and Acorn. They had rather simple meanings behind each land, butterfly was known as the land of prosperity and hosting rarest flying animals. "And you?" Wyn hesitated before rubbing his neck and looking away, "Acorn..." Well that was clearly a lie. braelynn stared him down not daring to move an inch until he was squirming under her gaze, his eyes bracing shut as he almost shouted. "Claw!...I'm from Claw..." She blinked several times before cupping her hand over her mouth to keep from making a sound, there had always been rumors about Claw. It wasn't like the rest of the lands, it was a dark and dreadful place that was mostly inhabited by Unmarked gangs and Unbound, the mere thought sent chills down Brae's spine. Wyn didn't seem to be the type of person from there, he wasn't covered in scars or had dirty clothes, there was no tattoos as far as she could see and yet in his eyes there was an undeniable sharpness. His face seemed dejected after her silence, sighing. "You're going to have the Goddess unbind us aren't you?" Braelynn's eyes widened in horror as she raised her hands. "No! Never!" It was a possibility if they didn't grow too close, she remembered first hearing of being Unbound, it was like being Unmarked but worse. Becoming Unbound was seen as monstrous because it was a soulmate that essentially rejected the other half of themselves, it was extremely rare to happen but the soulmate that wanted to be Unbound would request of the Goddess to remove all ties to their soulmate. Nobody really understands why, some believe that the soulmates simply don't match each other and others believe that the Unbound simply want no commitments. It was an awful thing to do though and as a punishment the Goddess makes the Unbound feel every emotion their original soulmate feels. "Really? You don't want to Unbind us?" "Yes, I could never do that and never want to do that, I just..." Braelynn wondered for a moment if she should share what she was feeling, the absolute terror of being his soulmate. The fact she was consumed with an endless nauseating paranoia that may even chase him away, but she took a deep breath and just before she could start to say a word Kathy appeared by their side squealing. "Brae! Is this him? What Gate is he from? What's his name? have you two danced- oh my Goddess have you kissed yet!?" Both their faces flushed before Wyn smiled warmly at her friend, "Hi, My name's Carwyn but please call me Wyn, we haven't uh danced or even..." "Hey I'm Kathy! Brae's best friend for life so if you dare come between us I'll beat your butt! It's nice to meet you though!" Just before Kathy could ask anything else Brae saw her parents walking towards them and the panic built in her throat, her lips growing dry. Without thinking she grabbed Wyn by the arm and ran towards the closest trees only slowing when seeing her parents talk to Kathy from afar, holding them off from following. "Do I wanna know why you dragged me here?" "You need to lie." For a second he was silent before she answered his unspoken question. "Claw is known...for Unbound and for the Unmarked gangs and while my parents aren't as prejudice my land is not entirely the same, they have strong opinions of Claw so you need to lie, not to my parents and not to Kathy but everyone else okay?" His mouth was set in a grim line as he nodded, until she felt the air assured with his promise and then walked out towards her parents. That was until she heard a cheerful voice and was suddenly wrapped in arms, "Thank the Goddess!" Who was this woman!?
