ELENA I was not asleep when the doorbell rang. Liam's text was still on my phone face down on the nightstand while the ring on my finger was catching the streetlight through the curtains. I looked at the peephole then I opened the door. Nicholas in pajamas. I had never seen Nicholas Carter in pajamas before. "I can't sleep," he said. I stepped back and let him in.
