Chapter 42

Alpha Xander’s POV

We are meeting in my office today. Anna, Derrick and Opal are coming to discuss what happened when Anna went to the castle. They are also bringing three of the girls Anna recently rescued from Dark Hollow. The girls chose to live here and have been cleared medically. My anxiety regarding what Anna has to say about Nicholas is driving me crazy. I have been the Alpha of the largest pack in the US for three years and running this pack has never given me this much anxiety. Nicholas is my little cousin. I am worried about him. I am first worried that he is aware and a participant in the corrupt things going on. I pray to the Moon Goddess nightly that that is not true. I also worry that he is being hurt, corrupted, manipulated. No matter what’s going on, I know we have to fix it. He is a good kid and was thrown into a tough situation. If someone is hurting my cousin, they will soon learn why I am such a feared Alpha. I hear a knock on my door and yell for them to enter.

“XANDER” I am greeted by my in-laws

I always felt blessed by being part of this family. My parents are not very parental. Meeting and mating with Teresa has shown me that I can be fierce, feared and loving. Derrick taught me how to balance all sides of my personality.

“Morning everyone. I know we have a lot to talk about, but Anna I have been going crazy to find out about Nicholas”

Just as she is about to tell me what happened, my phone rings.

“Alpha Xander” I say picking up the phone

“Hey Cousin”

“Nicholas?”

“Xander, I miss you man. I got your message”

“I am putting you on speaker. I was just about to ask our messenger how things went”

“She’s there?” he asks excitedly

“Yeah, she just walked into my office” I respond wearily

“Hi mate?” he says lovingly

“Hello Nicholas. Please tell me you are on a secure line?” Anna asks with no emotion

“I am. I miss you”

“There are other people here Nicholas, you are on speaker”

“I don’t care. I am going to fix things, and we are going to be together”

“Okay”

“So, you are okay, Nicholas? They are not hurting you?”

“No, just lying to me, spying on me, manipulating me. But my little Crane came and gave me a verbal slap. I plan to make changes, but I don’t know all the players. That’s why I am calling. I had my meeting with the Council this morning. I told them I was going to your pack next week and I wanted to get more involved. Two of the elders were onboard, but the others were not. Then there are the two that are always missing from meetings. The only excuse they could give me for not coming was the inability of my guards to protect me. So, I told them your elite warriors would escort me. I figured once I got to Full Moon we can talk more”

“Great idea, I will send Crane and another two warriors. When do you want to come”

“My mate is an elite warrior? Makes sense, the way she just appeared in my room. I want to visit your pack next week and stay a few days. I can’t be gone too long; it will give them grounds for abandonment of duties. Crane, will you stay in Full Moon while I’m there”

“I will see. I have another mission” Anna says

I hear him sigh and I know he is disappointed with Anna’s emotionless responses.

“Don’t be disappointed, Nicholas. Once you discover who Crane really is, you will understand. I will send the team next Wednesday. I have a few warriors undercover at the castle, so you can put them on your security detail. They are Ronald and Carter. Is Abel and Vincent coming too?”

“Yeah, I need to build a team that will have my back to help me on this side to fix our issues”

“Sounds good. I am happy to hear from you Nicholas. I will see you next week. I will text Abel details Tuesday”

With that we hung up. The four-year-long breath I have been holding is finally exhaled. My cousin is alive and doing well. The other issues we can address, but I am just happy to know he is okay. We all look at Annalisa

“Mate?” I question

“Yeah, the Moon Goddess has a warped sense of humor” she states

Annalisa’s POV

I am with my aunt and Uncle at Full Moon. We are going over the plans for the Alpha meeting next week and for me to update them on my visit to the King. I have been trying to understand the Moon Goddesses’ decision to give me King Nicholas as my second chance mate. s**t, to even give me a second chance, mate at all. No man will want me after what happened to me. Look at Vick, he didn’t even give me a chance to explain before he rejected me. I know Nicholas has not behaved this way, and he seems like he wants to accept the bond, but there is a lot he does not know. Will he feel the same way once he knows the truth? Am I ready to be with someone? I have come a long way with therapy and building my self-esteem. But am I able to open myself up to the bond and be with my mate in all ways necessary? I am not sure about that yet.

We enter Xander’s office just as he gets a call. I see the excitement and relief on his face as he talks to his cousin after four years. Then he does something I never expected

“Hi mate?” he says lovingly

He just told everyone we were mates. Three sets of eyes landed on me. I was not planning on telling anyone because there is still so much we both need to do individually and conversations that need to be had, before we can even think about accepting each other.

“Hello Nicholas. Please tell me you are on a secure line?” Anna asks with no emotion

“I am. I miss you”

“There are other people here Nicholas, you are on speaker”

“I don’t care. I am going to fix things, and we are going to be together”

“Okay”

Though my responses to him are to the point and void of any emotions, my insides are going crazy. His voice is so enticing and smooth. Just hearing him makes us want to drool. I want to see him again so badly. I am not even 18 yet. Why is the pull so strong? Nicholas goes back to talking with Xander and I turn and see my Aunt looking at me and smiling. Xander finishes the phone call and looks at me questionably

“Mate?” Xander asks

“Yeah, the Moon Goddess has a warped sense of humor” I state

“This is amazing. I am happy you received a second chance, and the King at that. Why didn’t you say anything when you returned home?” Aunt Opal states

“I’m not ready to think about that yet. There are too many variables between the two of us. I can’t guarantee it will work out. He knows nothing about me. Then there are the issues with the council and my mission as the guardian. I think there’s just too much going on right now to worry about a bond”

“Don’t do that Anna. Don’t put work ahead of the bond. Talk to Nicholas and he will understand. Give the bond a chance, you can take it slow until you are both ready. But don’t reject the bond” Aunt Opal said

I promise them all I will not reject him, and I will work on our bond. They seemed happier about this than Nicholas and I were. We confirm arrangements and plans for the Alpha’s and the King. We streamline what we are going to discuss and present to the Alpha’s along with plans for addressing the Council and stopping this trafficking ring. We have confirmed five packs that have participated in the trafficking ring and the rogue who has been supplying females to Alpha Clarence.
