Chapter 3 It wasn't me.

1233 Words
After Sasha left the Moon Festival hall in a fit of anger, her rage smoldered within her like a simmering volcano. She walked along the road aimlessly, her thoughts consumed by bitterness. Her phone buzzed incessantly with calls from worried pack members, but she chose not to answer or return any of them. Even Sarah, her twin sister, tried reaching out multiple times, but Sasha ignored her calls, letting them ring until they faded into silence. She needed space, or rather, she needed time to wrestle with the tempest of emotions raging within her. As the night wore on, Sasha's anger began to cool, and she started to feel a growing sense of being alone and separated from others. The pack's loyalty to her sister and the moon's unexpected choice gnawed at her thoughts. Why had the moon chosen Sarah over her? What actions had she taken to merit this act of betrayal? When morning came, Sarah tried calling Sasha once more, her worry evident with each ring of the phone. She couldn't shake off the feeling of concern that had settled within her. The next day, Sasha still didn't pick up her sister's call nor offer any response to her sister's attempts to reach out. Sarah understood the need to give her sister space that night, but now the lack of response filled her with worry. She decided it was time to face the situation head-on. With a heavy heart, Sarah made her way back to their former house, to the room they had always shared until the moon had worked her as the Luna of the pack. Outside their room, she noticed Sasha's sandals neatly placed by the door, a clear indication that her sister was inside. Sarah knocked gently, fully expecting Sasha to answer. When there was no response, she grew concerned. Sarah knew Sasha was inside, yet her repeated knocks went unanswered. Finally, she decided to use her own house key to unlock the door. As the door swung open, it revealed Sasha sitting on the bed, her legs drawn up to her chest, her chin resting wearily upon her knees. Sarah tried hard for a very long time to talk to her twin sister Sasha. She hoped that by talking, she could break through the wall of silence Sasha had built around herself. But no matter how hard she tried, Sasha remained stubbornly silent. She refused to make eye contact with Sarah, her gaze fixed on a distant point in the room. The room they were in began to feel small and cramped, and it was starting to get to Sarah. Sarah tried to talk to her, to bridge the gap that had grown between them, but Sasha remained obstinately silent.. Frustration began to build within Sarah, but she knew that getting angry would only make things worse. She had to hold back her anger for the sake of peace and their sisterly bond. She continued to speak, her voice filled with a mix of concern and desperation."It wasn't my doing," Sarah cried, her voice quivering with sincere distress. "I didn't plan any of this. It was the moon's decision, not mine. Sasha, however, was not ready to let go of her anger and suspicion. Instead, she suddenly sprung up from the bed as if stung by a bee, her face contorted in an expression of pain and resentment. "How can you be this cruel to me,your sister?" she spat, her piercing green eyes locking onto Sarah's with a fiery intensity that sent shivers down her spine. "Leave me the f*uck alone Sarah," Sasha growled, her eyes narrowed with anger as she glared at the floor. "What else do you want?... huh?" Sarah bit her lower lip, tasting blood as she fought back the urge to cry. Sasha went ahead and accused Sarah of plotting against her, firmly believing that her sister had somehow orchestrated the moon's choice to overshadow her. Sarah's eyes welled up with tears as she attempted to defend herself against Sasha's accusations. "It wasn't me," she cried, her voice trembling with genuine distress. "I didn't plan any of this. It was the moon's decision, not mine." Sasha, however, was not ready to let go of her anger and suspicion. "You think you can just waltz in here and take everything I've ever wanted for yourself?" she accused, her voice like ice. Sarah's fingers stilled, her green eyes wide with shock. She hadn't expected Sasha to confront her so directly, and the suddenness of it left her reeling. "Sasha, I never—" "Of course, you didn't," Sasha spat, cutting her off. "You never ask for anything, do you? But now that you're Gabriel's chosen mate, you have all the power, all the attention. Everything I've fought for my entire life handed to you on a silver platter." The hurt radiating from Sasha's words struck Sarah deep in her chest, but she couldn't let herself succumb to it. Not when there was still a chance to salvage their relationship. "I didn't ask for this role, Sasha," she said quietly, swallowing the lump forming in her throat. "And it doesn't mean I want to take anything away from you." "Then what is it you want?" Sasha demanded, her hands clenched into fists at her sides. "I want us to be sisters again," Sarah replied, her voice trembling with emotion. "I want things to be right between us like they used to be. Can't you see that?" Sasha stared at her, eyes narrowing as if searching for any hint of deception. Sarah held her gaze, willing her sister to understand the sincerity of her words. And for a brief moment, she saw the tiniest flicker of vulnerability in Sasha's eyes before it vanished, replaced by a steely resolve. "Things will never be the same again, Sarah," Sasha hissed, turning away. "You made sure of that." "Please, Sasha, we have to find a way to work through this," Sarah whispered, her voice barely audible above the persistent ticking of the old grandfather clock just outside their door. She looked up at her sister, her green eyes pleading for understanding. "I still believe in us," Sarah replied, her voice stronger now, though it quivered ever so slightly. "I still believe that our bond is stronger than whatever obstacles are thrown our way." "Ha!" Sasha scoffed, her voice dripping with disdain. "You always lived the sentimental one." "Is that such a bad thing?" Sarah asked, tears welling in her eyes as she clung to hope like a lifeline. "Does it make me weak because I still have faith in us, Sasha? In our family?" "Having faith is one thing, Sarah," Sasha snapped, her voice low and dangerous. "But you're blind if you can't see what's happening right in front of you." "Then help me see, Sasha," Sarah pleaded, desperation clinging to every word. "Help me understand so we can fix this." Sasha's face softened for the briefest of moments, the anger in her eyes giving way to something akin to sadness. But just as quickly as it had appeared, the vulnerability was gone, replaced once more by cold fury. "Maybe there's nothing left to fix," she whispered, her words cutting through the silence like a knife. Sarah closed her eyes, letting the tears fall freely down her cheeks. She knew deep down that their bond was fractured, perhaps irreparably so.
