CHAPTER 5 WRAPPED BY UNCANNY FATE GRACIAS’S POV “You can still take the bullet for her again” my eyes darted back to Jude. Were they speaking in riddles? Then came the bullet. Chills ran down my spine the moment I saw the bullet made its way towards me. Jude ran into it and he crashed to the floor in no time. My body went numbed, my legs trembling as the men let me go. I stood there watching Jude's unconscious body. I stood there watching him while the men signaled each other and left. The masked man's lip curled up, his eyes scanning me. I was left there not knowing what to do. I didn't even know who he was. So why would he take a bullet for me? He wasn't moving. I picked up my phone and ran from there. I didn't want to look back. I just wanted to hide away from all the mysteries that have been happening around me recently. Reaching at the axis. I looked back at his lifeless body in a pool of blood. I stood, Should I leave him? Yes. But my body couldn't move with my thoughts. What if he didn't die? He would haunt me till the end of the earth. I had nowhere to run to. My apartment was all I have in Meche. Even if I ran to MANDULA, my mother would be troubled. In all, he just saved me from a danger I know nothing about. Living was impossible even if I didn't save him. Those people weren't ordinary. They know me too, they would still come for me. I ran back to him. Remembering how he protected me without a second thought, maybe he wouldn't hurt me intentionally for now, maybe he will later. I dragged him out of the destroyed backyard. Lucy was nowhere to be seen. She must have run for her life. Getting Wrapped In Uncanny Fate. I heaved a deep sign dragging him out. Thank goodness I saw help and he was finally taken to a hospital. Laying on the hospital bed the whole night, his hand clung to mine. As if he was afraid I would disappear without a trace. I couldn't sleep nor make any movement. What with the protectiveness? Even when half alive? His face looked so gentle and refined but uncannily dangerous. He was impossible. I didn't want to know what all this was about. I didn't want a chaotic life, so there was no way I would be part of it. The stings of antiseptic filled the air. It smelled like diluted bleach and isopropyl alcohol. I could barely perceive any other smell. I wanted to go out for a moment for fresh air but he wouldn't let my hand go. Watching the blood gosh out of his elbow, for a moment I was grateful he took the bullet for me. He still had a cut on his belle, now it was a gun shot. Hmm, I couldn't think of anything other than what he really wanted. No way could I pin my hand around it. My mind wandered back to his call earlier. 'Code' what code? What has it got to do with me? Even the man earlier still mentioned it. Then I knew it wasn't as simple as it seemed to be. 'What code? And what is it for? What has the cold got to do with me?’ A soft groan had me jolted from my thoughts. His grips on my hand slowly loosened. I massaged it gently. “Where is my shirt?” He asked. His face maintains its usual cold vibe. I picked it up and handed it over to him. “Let's go he,” said wearing it. I gasped surprised, “Aren't you going to wait a little longer? Your wounds haven't healed” I said looking at his pale face. But he shot me a cold glare. I instantly swallowed the rest of my words and held his hand. Helping him steady. I saw his teeth grunted then his fist clinching. I didn't say a word. Even if I had something to say. Nothing was coming out. He released my hand and walked out of the hospital door. “Go home. I will be back soon,” he said and walked over a bland Honda. “A002, the mystery I finally found. They dare?” he said, his teeth grunting. What does he mean, the mystery he found? My heartbeat quickening. I watched the sleek car disappear into the far distance.
