Chapter 7 Thursday morning dawned gray and gloomy. Okay, I didn’t know if it was that way at dawn, but it sure was when I got up at nine. I was surprised I’d slept that late, and figured it was probably the result of my body and mind needing to let go of the tension from the previous night. I wasn’t exactly cheerful when I woke up, but at least I felt like I could handle things with some sort of equanimity. I wasn’t due into work until three, so I fixed breakfast and waited for Steve to get in touch with me. A vain hope I suspected, since he had probably crashed as soon as he got home, which could have been just a couple of hours ago. To kill time, I watched TV.
