Chapter 10: The final straw

Laura’s POV “Is anything the matter here?” A familiar voice said and I turned around to see just the person I had expected. “You did this, didn’t you?” I asked. “Look at you, Laura. Accusing me of something again with evidence,” Alison said with a smirk etched on her face. Her hair was back to its original color and I guessed she visited the salon during the day. “You did this. Just admit it,” I said. “Of course, I did. Just see this as pay back for what you did to my hair this morning,” she replied. “You do realize these are Anderson’s clothes, right?” I asked. “Of course I do,” she said. “And this could make me lose my job?” I added. She rolled her eyes and said, “Duh!!! That’s the whole purpose of this. I want you out of my boyfriend’s house.” Before I could say another word, Alison yelled, “Oh my God, babe. Come here fast.” I looked at her wondering what she was doing. Anderson ran to the laundry room. “What? What is it? Why are you yelling?” Anderson asked her, looking really scared. “I told you this girl isn’t competent bit you insisted on still keeping her. Now look what she’s done,” Alison said, pointing at the washing machine. Anderson’s eyes went from Alison’s face to the washing machine. I watched as hie pupils went from small to big. “What happened here?” He yelled. “I… I’m sorry, Mr. Smith. Honestly, I don’t know how that happened,” I said, pleading. “How could you be so careless as to mix my white collar shirts with other colors?”. Anderson said, his voice sounding very disappointed. It was the first time speaking to to me in that tone. “I’m sorry, Mr. Smith. Deduct it from my salary if you have to but please don’t fire me,” I said. Then I forced tears to pour from my eyes before continuing, “Remember I am an orphan. If you fire me now, I’ll have no choice but to go back to the streets and be forced to go back to my old lifestyle.” I kept crying and saw Anderson’s face go from anger to pity. Then he said, “Don’t cry, Laura. It’s fine. I think I know someone who can fix this. I’ll just give him a call and have him come and pick up the clothes.” “Will I still get fired?” I asked, sniffing. “No, you won’t,” he replied. I turned to look at Allison and smirked at the shock on her face. “What? You’re not going to fire her?” She asked Anderson. “No, it’s a mistake but nobody’s above mistake,” Anderson replied. “But what if she makes this same mistake another time?” Alison asked. “Then I’ll know what to do when that time comes. Why worry about something that hasn’t happened yet?” Anderson answered. “But babe…” Alison tired to complain but Anderson stopped her. “Please Alison, I just got back from work not quite long and I’m really exhausted. Please I need to go and rest. I don’t have the strength to argue about this,” he said. With that, Anderson walked out of the laundry room while Alison watched him in disbelief. I cleaned the tears on my face and said, “What did you say earlier? That you’d make me lose my job? I don’t think that’s going to ever happen.” She turned to look at me and even looks could kill, I’d be 6 ft below the ground because Alison was shooting deadly glares at me. “I don’t know what grip you have over my man but I’m going to break it off and see to it that you leave this house,” Alison said and stormed out of the laundry room. I couldn’t believe Anderson believed my fake tears. Even though he did believe it, I still had to be careful because Alison might plan something even worse. I needed to think of something else I could do – Something that would get her out of the house forever. I was still thinking of what to do when I overheard her on the phone one day. “I’ll meet you there…I love you too James… See you in 10… Bye,” I had heard her say. James? As far as I know, Anderson and James are two different names. Does that mean that Alison is cheating on Anderson? This is good, really good I thought. I would get evidence of her cheating and blackmail her with it. I kept an eye on her waiting for her to step out of the house so I could follow her because it seemed she was going out to see this James person. Immediately she made a move, I followed secretly behind her. She got in her car and drove away while I stopped a cab and had the driver discreetly follow her car. Eventually, she drove into a restaurant. I had the cab drop me a few distance away from where she parked her car. I paid the driver and got out, watching Alison walk into the restaurant. I sneaked toward the restaurant carefully so that I wouldn’t be caught. I watched as she took her seat at a table where a tough man was already seated. I brought out my phone and snapped just at the same time she was leaning in to kiss the man. I smiled as I took more pictures of them together. After I was satisfied, I went back home and waited for her to come back. That night when she came back, I went to her room to see her. I told her I knew about her cheating but she tried to deny it. “I have evidence,” I told her. She thought I was lying and asked me to prove it. I brought out my phone and showed her the pictures I took. She looked really scared that her secret was out. “What do you want me to do?” She asked. I smirked.
