1082 Words
Laura's POV The security guy and I turned to see what the voice had come from and there's stood a tall, dashingly handsome young man. Just as I was wondering who the handsome man standing before me was, my thoughts were interrupted by the security guy. "Good morning Mr. Smith, it's this beggar. She has been here for quite a wild and has refused to leave. I guess she's here to beg for some money but I offered her some money and she refused to take it from me. She insisted on seeing you." the guard said. I? A beggar? I couldn't blame him for thinking that. I knew what I wanted and I was going to go for that. "So is that why you turned my company into your playing ground or some sort of place where you can just barge in to cause trouble ?" The man asked with a stern voice. "I'm sorry Mr. Smith," the security guy apologized. Ignoring him, the man brought his wallet out of his pocket and pulled out some money. He turned to look at me for the first time since he approached us and said, "Young woman, take this money and leave. This is a working environment not a playground. I hope that will be enough to feed you for the day." I looked at him unable to believe my ears. I, Laura Maloney, the daughter of a reputable businessman, has been reduced to the level of a mere beggar. I felt my blood boil but I wasn't going to blow my cover. I took the money from his hand and thanked him for it. "Open the gate," the man said to the security guy and walked back to his car. The security guy opened the gate for him in the man drove into the company. After the security guy had closed back the gate, he came to me and said, "My boss has finally given you some money. Can you leave now?" Hold on? His boss? "Wait a minute, the man who just gave me some money and drove into the company, is that Mr. Anderson Smith?" I asked. "Of course he is. So, leave now," the security guy said. I can't believe I just missed the person I am supposed to meet. I wasn't going to leave until I had another chance to see him now that I know him by face. Immediately I looked in the direction where his car was a few minutes ago, I saw what looked like a brown wallet similar to the one Anderson had pulled out some money from to give me. "Isn't that Anderson's wallet?" I thought. I walked over to it and picked it up. It looked exactly like the same wallet. I smiled as I saw this as my chance of meeting Anderson again. "Isn't that Mr. Smith's wallet? Did you steal it?" The security guy asked me. "No, I did not steal it. It must have slipped out of his pockets. I have to give it back to him," I said. "No, you wouldn't. Do you realize that could be a huge amount of money in that? The both of us could share the money amongst ourselves and no one would know about it," the security guy said, opening the gate. "No that's stealing and you were just accusing me of that a while ago," I said eyeing the security guy. The security guy kept trying to convince me not to return the money while I looked for a way, I could get into the company to return the wallet. Just then, I saw Anderson from afar coming down towards the gate. "Mr. Smith, over here, I have your wallet," I yelled at the top of my voice. I knew he heard me because he increased his pace. When he finally got to the gate, the security guy opened the gate for him. "And what is my wallet doing with you? Didn’t I give you enough money?" Anderson said with such an arrogant tone. The nerves of this guy, I thought trying so hard to suppress my anger so I don't screw up my plans. "I didn't steal your wallet. I found it on the floor. It probably slipped from your pocket or something," I answered. I could see his expression change immediately. "Oh...oh, I'm sorry about that. Thank you," he said. I handed him the wallet as I responded with a fake smile. He turned to leave but then suddenly, turned around again. "Any other person would have taken the wallet and run away with it but you chose to return it, why?" He asked. "Because I'm not a thief and does not take what belongs to other," I replied. There was a brief moment of silence before he spoke again. "Why are you here?" He asked me. Finally, I thought. "I came here with the hope of getting a job. I lost my parents a few years back and it has been tough trying to get a job that pays so I could feed and pay for my house rent," I said, forcing tears to well up in my eyes. I was such a great actress. I could see the pitiful look on his face as I explained my story and I couldn't help but commend myself for being such an outstanding actress. There was a brief moment of silence again before he spoke. "Oh, I'm sorry about your loss. How about I give you a job? I need a home keeper at my residence and I think you would be perfect for the job," he said. "Oh really? I'd really love that. Thank you so much sir," I said. "Here my card. It has my number on it. You can send me a text message later so that I can send you my home address. You can start work tomorrow," Anderson said. I took the card from him and watched him walked way in the direction of the company building. I also walked away from the gate, pulled out my phone and texted dad. "I'm in." I giggled happily as I threw myself into my bed. It’s been such a long day for me and I wanted to finish this assignment so fast and get freed from my fathers dirty errands. Just then my phone beeped, a message came in. My knees went jelly as I stared in disbelief at the life threatening message from an anonymous sender.
