Maya’s POV
I didn’t realize I was holding my breath until the study door closed behind Vanessa. It was only after she left I let out a shaky exhale. That was the last straw, I thought. Vanessa will not take it easy on me after walking in on her fiancé holding me like that.
The room suddenly felt much larger, much quieter.
My heart was still pounding so hard that I could hear it in my ears.
I kept staring at the closed door, half-expecting Vanessa to storm back inside and dragging me across the floor and out of the house.
But she didn’t come back in.
