Abducted

Olivia Maine My skull throbbed as I woke, realizing I was seated on icy concrete. Blinking against the darkness, I found myself trapped in a small, bare room. Relief washed through me when I saw my clothes were untouched. What did they want from me? Why bring me here? I knew dangerous people were involved, but surely my father was expecting me. He’d realize something was wrong and start searching. At that thought, I reached into every pocket, unsurprised to find them empty. They’d taken my phone and headphones. I drew a shaky breath, forcing back panic. My father would rescue me. He had men, plenty of men. He would come. A sharp cry escaped me when the door banged open. The man from earlier stepped in, scar slicing down his left temple toward his eye. I scuttled sideways as he advanced. “Who are you?” My voice trembled despite my attempt at courage. He rolled his eyes, producing a gun. My breath caught. “Stop moving.” I obeyed instantly. “Who are you?” I pressed again. “That’s irrelevant. Stand up.” His words carried a faint accent, Italian. His angular features matched. I rose slowly, noting he towered over me. “Why did you kidnap me?” Instead of answering, he circled, assessing me like a specimen. “You’re making a mistake. Do you even know who my father is?” My father was the don of the American mafia, a dangerous man. But deep down, I feared even he couldn’t save me from the Italians. They were merciless, if not as savage as the Russians. I hoped the threat might work. It didn’t. The man laughed, like I’d told a joke. “I know exactly who your father is. I’ve done business with him.” I froze. “B-business?” Ignoring me, he said, “Stay put. I’ll be back.” Restlessness gnawed at me. What did he mean by business with my father? No… I wouldn’t believe it. My father could be strict, even cruel, but not wicked. Not to his own blood. I scanned the room. Two doors, one window. I tried the first door, locked. The second led to a cramped, windowless toilet. Frustration burned behind my eyes. Why me? Why now, the one day I’d left home? If I’d stayed in, I’d be reading a book, not plotting escape. The window became my last hope. I shoved at it with all my strength, grunting through the effort. “Come on,” I muttered, blinking away tears. “What are you doing?” I spun, heart lurching. The scarred man leaned against the wall, amused. I burst out, “If it’s money you want, I’ll give it. Whatever you want, I swear.” “Money,” he echoed, smirking. “My father has plenty, he’ll pay you anything.” “Are you sure he’s your father? From what I saw, he needs money more than I do.” “What do you mean?” “Well, selling you to us for a mere hundred thousand doesn’t scream ‘loving parent,’ does it?” “You’re lying.” “Why would I bother?” “No! I refuse to believe you.” My voice cracked. “Believe what you want. Why do you think we knew exactly where you’d be? You’re not stupid, Olivia. You’ve never been of use to him.” “Then what use am I to you?” “That’s for my boss to decide.” His grin widened. Rage flared in me, violent and sharp. “A lot of men would kill for untouched prey like you. I’m not sure yet if he’ll auction you off… or keep you for himself.” “Decide?” I whispered. “Two paths, either you’re sold to the highest bidder, or you work in our brothels. Either way, someone will pay to have you.” My breath quickened. Pay to do that? How could they even know I am a virgin? “You’re disgusting.” “You were born into this life. Stop pretending you don’t know the rules.” “It doesn’t have to be this way,” I pleaded. He only shrugged. “Sorry, sweetheart. Not my call. The boss wants you now. Time to hear your fate.”
