When we had left the Colony, I hadn’t known what to expect outside the walls of the monorail track. All I had to go on was what I had read in the Archives, but apparently that information hadn’t been updated in the years since the last war. Instead of bustling cities teeming with life, the world beyond the Colony was shattered, broken into rubble, what life remained hidden from view. Sinda wasn’t around when I woke up, and Kyer didn’t know where she might be, because she was already gone when he woke, too. Yesterday I might have been upset about her disappearance, but now I was more than a little relieved not to have to put up with her so early in the morning.
