Chapter 16
We made it back to our platform before the lights dimmed for the night, but it was cutting it close. Once or twice, Sinda complained she would’ve liked to have had Tin’s cycle. We didn’t walk on the rails but rather stayed up on the platforms, and many times we were forced to walk single file for several miles before we reached an area where we could spread out again. After a while, the excitement of our afternoon wore me down and weariness eased into my limbs. My legs seemed to move on their own, without any input from me.
I probably would have kept on walking right past our platform without noticing if Sinda hadn’t thrown herself onto our mattress. “Home,” she announced.
“We still have a ways to go,” Kyer said, sinking down to sit beside her.
