Chapter 7 I gripped the console so hard, my hand began to shake. Kyer took it from me to read Brin’s message, and I glared past him at the door Sinda had slammed shut behind her. The nerve! Why did Brin think I would write back? After the Officers arrived at my house, forcing Kyer and me to run away. I knew she was the one who called them on us. She had to be. Clicking off the console, Kyer handed it back to me. “Are you going to write back?” he asked. “Hell, no.” I jammed the console into my haversack. I wanted to throw it against the wall, smash it into little pieces—then I wouldn’t be able to respond even if I ever felt tempted to—but I might need it later for something.
