Chapter 25 telling his story

1276 Words
Hope’s P.O.V   I’ve been at Rick’s pack for a few weeks now and I still don't trust everyone here, so even now I still sometimes leave for a few days just to feel like myself again. It scares me sometimes that my freedom could be taken away from me at any time and I just wont allow that to happen. I’ve been on my own for eight years in the forest and I was alone for the last few years I spent in my old pack. I know how to protect myself at any cost and I won't hide behind anyone. I have watched them all train everyday and they are a strong pack. Rick is a gentle soul, but I’ve also seen him be ruthless with rogues when it comes to protecting his pack and family. I like how he is with everyone here, including me, but he still had yet to tell me his story. I mean, where are his parents? Does he only have one sibling? Has he had a mate before me or am I the only one? All these questions keep coming into my head, so I decided the best person to ask would be his best friend and Beta, Vince. I knew that at this time of day he would be in the office and when I walked into the pack house I was right and he was there. As soon as I walked through the door he looked up at me and smiled.   “Luna Hope, what a surprise, come sit down.” Vince said and watched as I walked over to the chair and sat down. I didn't want to beat around the bush with him, I just wanted to come right out with it.   “So Vince, what is going on with Alpha Rick? He knows my story, but he hasn't told me his and I feel like I know nothing about him.” I asked and Vince was shocked with my straightforwardness.   “Hope, Rick is somewhat of a closed off man. You see and I pray that he wont have my head for this, but his parents and his brother were killed by rogues. He wouldn't have been Alpha if only his father and mother had passed, but his brother died too and he had to take the role of Alpha at a young age. He was only fourteen when all of this happened and he had to grow up really fast, but he hated it. His sister, Kimmie offered to take over for a while until he was older, but he was determined to make them proud. When he found you he became a lot happier, but he still has that dark side and he hopes to find the rogues that killed his family, he wants to make them pay for what they did.” Vince replied and I listened closely to what he was saying, but there was something he wasn't telling me.   “Well, that's half the story, I just hope to hear the rest from….” I started to say, but was interrupted.   “If you wanted to get to know me and my story, then why didn't you ask me? I could have told you myself.” Rick said, making both Vince and I jump when we heard his voice. I recovered fast and stood up, turning around to face him. I took his hand in mine and led him out of the office and outside to a tall oak tree, where we could have privacy to sit and talk.   “Listen, I am sorry I went to Vince, but it seems every time I try and get close to you, you push me away and you can only push a person so far away before they are gone for good.” I said, explaining, but he shook his head.   “I wouldn't have to push you away if you didnt leave me for days on end.” Rick replied and I sighed.   “You don't understand, the woods have been my home for eight years. I have had to run, hide, fight, feed myself and sometimes I leave for days on end because I want to know that your pack is safe. I want to make sure that your pack is safe. Alpha Roman is a horrible man and there is no telling what he would do or say to trap me in his cells. As for Alpha Cole, I don't know how he is now or if he is even looking for me, but after all these years he has yet to send anyone to trap me. I want this pack safe and if it takes me to leave for days or weeks on end to ensure that, then that's what I will do.” I said, but then Rick stood up. I thought he was angry with me and was going to walk away from me, but instead he held out his hand for me. I took his hand and stood up, looking into his eyes.   “Ask me anything you want and I will tell you, there is nothing to hide.” Rick asked and this made me chuckle.   “Okay, you asked for it.” I said and thought for a few seconds, thinking about the first thing I wanted to know.   “Have you ever had another mate besides me?” I asked and he shook his head.   “No, I haven't. I’ve had my fill of playmates, but they always knew that I would never mark them, they knew what it was.” Rick replied and I didnt have a problem with that at all. We all have a past, so who am I to make a comment on his past when we didn't even know each other back then.   “What made you decide that you wanted to make Vince your Beta?” I asked and he smiled.   “Because he was the one that kept me sane through everything that I ever went through, he’s not only my Beta, but he’s also my best friend. We’ve been friends ever since we were five years old.” Rick replied and I nodded.    “Have you been in many wars?” I asked, not even getting close to the hard questions yet.   “No, not yet, but we are always ready.” Rick replied and took my hand once more, leading me back into the pack house. The sky was getting darker and I knew that he didn't want to get rained on.   “Are you scared of getting wet?” I asked and just as I said that it started raining, so I pulled him back.   “It's not going to hurt you to get a little rain on you.” I said and he started to laugh as we both got soaked.   “See, it wasn't that bad at all. Come on, let's get inside and get dried off.” I said and he grabbed my hand, pulling me inside the pack house. We ran upstairs to his bedroom and I stood there shivering, trying to ring out my shirt. I looked up and saw him staring at me.   “What?” I asked and he shook his head.    “I’m sorry, I forgot that we still haven't gotten you any clothes yet.” He replied and I laughed.   “Do I look like a drowned rat?” I asked and he shook his head, still staring at me.
