Chapter Seven: The Secret

997 Words
"What happened?" Elena asked, looking so surprised. David stayed silent for a moment, looking shocked and puzzled. "Morgan is searching for Natasha’s past." Elena frowned in disbelief. "What past?" David looked at her carefully. Does she really not know what is happening? "You really don’t know who that girl is?" Who is she? Elena asked, furious and angry. David smiled, but a deadly smile. "I can't tell you anything." "Why? I thought we were in this together." "We are." "So why can't you tell me what’s really going on?" There is nothing going on, just a past history about her. "Wait, are you telling me that the poor Natasha is… No way, it is not possible, it can't be." "What can't be?" David asked, surprised, as if she already knew who she was. "If she didn't know, he can't reveal it to her; it's too dangerous, she is emotionally detached from Morgan." "Yes, it is what you think," he suddenly replied to her. 'Elena stood up from her feet. You were the one who first started it—the lies and the secrets. If I seek revenge, don't blame me. She stood up on her feet and left the church. David quickly called Gabriel on his cell phone. Good afternoon, sir. What is it? Why are you calling me at this time? Sir, Dr. Tyler called. What happened? Why is he calling you? I thought I had already settled him. Sir, it's different. David took a deep breath. He said that Morgan came to his hospital today and checked the file of Natasha. For what? Did Morgan find out anything? Gabriel said angrily. He said he is now suspicious about Natasha's parents' death, and he took some pictures of the file. Don't worry. Just call him back and tell him he should not worry himself. I thought the file was already burned. Yes, sir. The original file is already burned. Fine and good. Your daughter was also asking me questions. What happened? I hope you didn't tell her anything. Yes, sir, I didn't say anything. "If she asks again, tell her you don't know anything that happened. But she is growing suspicious and she even knows because she was right here with me when I answered the phone call. Don't ever let her know. Is that clear? Yes, sir. David cut the call and put his cell phone inside his pocket. He went to meet the reverend father. Father, I have sinned again. What are your sins? Confess them to the Lord, for the Lord will forgive your sins. Father, it's a lot of sins. God is a forgiving Father. He forgives us our sins no matter the sin we have committed. Just pray and ask for forgiveness. David looked at the reverend with a warm smile. I love your teachings, Father. You are the only one that keeps me moving. I have been inspired by God to bring the Good News to the world. May God continue to inspire you. Amen. David knelt down. I pray, let the Almighty God forgive your sins and guide you in everything you do. Go and cherish, your sins are forgiven. David bowed his head and stood up, then walked out of the church. Back at Morgan's office. Moscow sat with the secretary and the rest of the workers. I called this meeting in the absence of our boss, who is my boss and your boss. He kept silent, looking at each of their faces, waiting to see if there would be any reaction from any of them. We all know the news going on right now. Yes, sir, we all know, said one of the workers. I think we should put our heads together and fight for this—no mistakes, no surrender. Our boss has given us life when we needed it. He is our savior. Now that his company, which he built, is about to crash just because of a statement he made at the opening grand event ceremony, that statement is beginning to destroy him and his company. Sir, I have a suggestion, said another worker. What is the question? Sir, since he can't face his rival, why doesn't he leave her and follow Elena Gilbert, who is every investor's admirer? Why did he still choose a poor orphan girl who is trending online? Moscow smiled outside, but inside he felt it, knowing he couldn't bring his boss down or let anyone speak badly against him. He decided to protect him. That will be when he resumes his office; the statement you just made now, you will repeat it that day. There was silence for a few seconds before they started murmuring among themselves. So we all need to step up and help our boss. The meeting has been adjourned; go back to your duty posts. Moscow left them still murmuring. Elena drove her car roughly at high speed. She drove into Gabriel's company as she parked. Take it easy, madam, one of the customers who came to patronise them said. Elena didn't say a word; she just moved inside the company angrily. Is my dad around? she asked the secretary. Yes, he's inside his office, the secretary replied. She used speed and left there, entering the elevator as it lifted her up. Elena stormed into Gabriel’s office, very angry, as she slammed the door. “Who is Natasha?” she asked immediately. Gabriel slowly removed his glasses, not surprised because he knew she would come. “Why are you asking?” “Because everyone is hiding something from me. Who really is this orphan girl trending online? What is so special about her that you don't want to tell me? “You are overthinking.” Gabriel tried to calm her down, but she removed his hands. “No, Dad. There was silence as he went to sit down on his chair. “Who exactly is she?” “Some truths are better left buried.”
