"Ahito!" Sakura called my name from the other side of the door. "Wake up; you'll be late for school." "I'm already up, mom," I lied, failing to realize she'd recognize my morning voice and know I was actually still in bed. "I can tell you're lying," she sounded a bit irritated but there was still a sense of cheerfulness in her tone. "I'll give you five more minutes and if you won't get up by then I'll come inside and drag you to school myself." "Mom!" I whined as I tried to make up an excuse. "I- I'm naked." "Then you better start putting some clothes on." Sakura said. "Alright, jeez." I groaned before remembering I had all the time in the world and I could continue sleeping as long as I wanted. I snapped my fingers and all the noise that was coming from the outside, even the crickets stopped. This pure silence was something I had a hard time getting used to at first but not having to listen to my neighbor's annoying dog barking in the morning, or the cars driving across the street was an excellent benefit so I was definitely more than willing to compromise. It was rather unsettling that the only thing I could hear was my breath that was hitting my sheets and occasional movement that my body made whenever I would get bored of sleeping in one position. However being able to stay in bed as long as my heart desired was actually a dream come true so I wasn't going to start complaining now. "Mom," I yelled just to make sure everything was frozen and since there was no answer I placed my head back on my pillow. I couldn't really tell how long I was asleep but when I woke up I was feeling recharged. One could even say I was looking forward to what this day was going to bring, that is of course until I recalled I had to go to school in a few minutes and the smile I had on my face dropped immediately. Once I came to a conclusion that there was no point in prolonging this and I'd have to eventually go to that disgraceful place I pressed my middle finger on my thumb before it made a snapping sound and all the noises from the outside resumed. I finally forced myself to get up from bed and put on some pants and grabbed a towel before heading towards the shower. To my surprise there was no one inside so thankfully I didn't have to wait in line. I took a short shower, not because I wanted to but because although I was enjoying a nice hot water it soon became extremely cold and since I never liked cold showers I had to end it quicker than I was hoping for. After that I dried my hair and put my school clothes on, which consisted of clean underwear, dark grey jeans, a red and black plaid flannel shirt, socks and a new pair of canvas shoes that Dominique bought for me a few weeks before school started. I was contemplating whether I should have put my beanie hat on but since the weather seemed quite warm I decided against it. I sprayed my cologne on my neck as the last touch before grabbing my backpack and leaving my room. When I arrived at the kitchen I took a few bites of the toast. Afterwards I noticed the strawberries that looked like they were begging to be eaten and I couldn't resist the temptation. I only drank a small amount of water since I didn't like peeing in school because the bathroom there was disgusting so I wanted to minimize the time I had to spend in it as much as possible. "Well, well, well," My sister greeted me with a suspicious smirk on her face. "Look who's finally not late. I guess there's a first time for everything." "Wow, you're a real comedian, aren't you?" I returned a sarcastic smile. "You know what would be super hilarious. If you didn't use all the hot water, little sis." "Oh I will definitely take that into consideration." She glanced towards the window for a second to appear as if she was contemplating something. "Well I thought about your extremely selfish idea and came to the conclusion. My answer to that is - if you want to take hot showers you better start getting up early. Otherwise shut up and eat your stupid strawberries." "Enough bickering, you two," Sakura addressed us. "Aren't you tired of arguing about silly things?" "We wouldn't be arguing at all if she wasn't using up all the hot water." I pouted. "In case you haven't noticed there's three women living in this household and us girls have needs that don't apply to you." She glared. "Oh really? Like what?" I asked. "Shaving legs for example. You're a guy so of course you wouldn't understand." "Seriously? You're wearing jeans; no one can see your legs. Besides how much hair do you have that you have to shave it every single day?" I wrinkled my nose in frustration. "I like when my legs are smooth as silk." Hitomi poked her tongue out. "Ugh, this is exactly why I want my own bathroom so I won't have to deal with this every day." "We've talked about this." Sakura joined our conversation. "You're not getting your personal bathroom." "Why not?" "Because we can't afford it and even if we could, you're going to college next year so that bathroom would be useless." She replied. "Now wait a minute," Hitomi's eyes widened. "I support Ahito on this particular topic. We definitely need a second bathroom." "What are you plotting now?" I raised an eyebrow as I gazed at her. "Nothing..." She winked devilishly before turning her face back towards mom. "I just think it's a good idea to have two bathrooms because once this i***t leaves that one will belong to only me. He-he." She let out an evil laughter. "Ugh, I hate it when you two agree on something." Mom sighed. Before anyone could say anything else Dominique entered the room. "Are you guys ready? I'll drop you off to school." "Yep." Hitomi and I responded simultaneously as we grabbed our bags. "Are you feeling better now?" I asked once we left the house and got inside the car. "Yes, and thanks for not telling your mom about what happened." Dominique gave me a reassuring smile. "I actually have a job interview this afternoon." "Really?" My eyes lit up. "Well that's exciting. Good luck." "I'm sure you'll do great, mom." Hitomi encouraged her as well. "Thanks, my sweeties." Dominique became more energetic. Soon she reached our school and Hitomi and I got out of the car. "Love you, mom," I waved goodbye before closing the door. "Love you too," she sent me an air kiss and drove off. "Bye, loser." My sister couldn't help but ruin the mood. "Bye, sis." I rolled my eyes before we both went our separate ways. Once I entered the school building I headed to my locker to grab some books that I needed for my first class. It only took me a few seconds to reach my destination but when I did I overheard someone talking from the corner on the left. I couldn't exactly tell who it was because my vision was blocked by the wall so I just ignored it. Since eavesdropping wasn't my hobby or anything I decided to just get on with my day. Well that was until they mentioned my name so obviously I was intrigued and I went closer to hear them better. "...Apparently his mom was artificially inseminated and that's how he and his sister were born. My mom was there actually. She said that his mom was single at that time but really wanted to have kids so that's why she picked an anonymous sperm donor." A female voice said. "No wonder he's all messed up in the head. The kid doesn't have a father figure in his life." A male voice replied. "His sister's even worse. She's such a psychopath. That kid has some serious issues." Rage flowed through my body as I heard them spreading all those lies about my sister. In that moment I wanted to punch a hole in the wall. I stepped closer to them to check who they were and once I took a peek around the corner I recognized my classmate Bianca and her friend Mark. I wasn't all that surprised that she was involved in this since she always loved sticking her nose into other people's businesses. But there was one thing I wasn't prepared for. Seeing how Jordan was sitting alongside them. I knew he was Bianca's friend but I would have never in a million years thought that he would involve himself in a conversation topic such as my family's private matters. Looking at him awkwardly laughing with them made my fury grow and my blood boil. Although I was extremely frustrated my anger quickly died down as I realized they weren't even worth my energy. I could have gone out there and yelled or made a scene but what would that have achieved? I'd probably get detention and those ass wipes would have more reasons to laugh at me. I wasn't going to let that happen. So instead I did what any sensible person would. I just went up to them calmly and collectively. "Oh hey there, everyone!" I greeted them with a bright smile. Once Jordan glanced at me he swiftly lowered his head in a shameful manner and avoided eye contact. "I overheard what you guys were saying a minute ago..." "Oh, really?" Bianca gave me a smug smirk. "And what are you gonna do about it?" "I just came here to warn you." I offered a friendly advice. "You do realize that what your mother did is a violation of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, right? She could lose her job or even go to jail because of that." "Wait what?" She looked at me with a dumbfounded expression. "You wouldn't dare!" "Hell yes, I would." I let out a short laughter. "If I hear you talking about my family again then you might have to start visiting your mama in jail soon. So next time you decide to gossip about other people's businesses just be aware of that, okay?" I wasn't even sure that what I said was completely accurate but it didn't really matter anyways. Bianca was dumb enough to believe it even if it had been a lie, or as I liked to call it - an exaggerated truth. She didn't say anything after that. Everyone became silent so I took that as my cue to exit. "Ahito, wait, please, don't go." Jordan chased after me. "Just leave me alone," I requested as I continued walking up the stairs. "What those guys said was totally wrong. I don't agree with them at all." He stated. "You should be telling that to them, not me. I'm already well aware of that." I turned around to face him. "But what I don't know is why you were there listening to it without any objections. Why did you just sit there and do nothing while they were badmouthing me behind my back? You could have asked them to stop. You could have told them - no guys he's not like that. But instead you chose to stay silent. Not only that but you were also laughing at their jokes too. You want to know why you did that. I think it's because you value their friendship more than you value the truth or me for that matter. It's okay, I don't blame you. I never really had friends and I don't know what it's like so I can't honestly say that I get it but I don't hate you or anything. But that being said I also don't want to hang out with someone who lets his friends talk s**t about me while he laughs along with them." "I'm sorry..." He replied after a long pause. "So am I." I gave him a half smile as I resumed my path. Once I left his sight I realized how silly I was behaving. I never cared about what those idiots thought of me before so I had no idea why I felt this way. Deep down I knew my classmates never really liked me but hearing their opinions out loud just confirmed my suspicions. "Whatever, those bitches can suck my balls..." I said to myself as I shook my head to get rid of the unnecessary thoughts and clear my mind before continuing walking to my first class.
