"Merrick, what's going on with you and Oriana?"
Merrick swallowed his anger and replied with a cool detachment, "The divorce didn't go through."
"So, have you two made up?"
Krystal's heart sank, but she kept her voice steady.
In her mind, Oriana must have regretted it and was clinging on, refusing to let go.
The silence on the other end was like a heavyweight.
Regret gnawed at Krystal. If she hadn't called Merrick that morning, maybe he'd be single by now.
She probed cautiously, "Has Oriana cleared up her misunderstanding about me? If not, I can call her."
"There's no misunderstanding. Don't worry."
Merrick finally broke the silence, his voice heavy with fatigue. "I'll come over to see you soon. Let's talk then."
"Alright, take care on your way."
