It is in the early hours of Saturday morning and Chloe’s phone has been ringing none stop on the nightstand next to her bedside. She tries to stretch her hand to reach for it but the heavy headache from last night’s whiskey is not making things any easier for her. It rings again for the fourth time, at least she manages to pick up this time. “Hello” she says with the very lazy voice without even looking on the screen first like how she normally does. Her eyes are also heavy.
“Miss Hemilton, where are you? The marketing team is waiting on the content of the new Miss New York competition advert.” Sandra’s anxious voice somehow managed to cure her heavy headache same time, making her to jump to the shower, leaving the phone behind on the bed whilst still connected to the call.
“Hello, hello! Chloe, are you still there?” Sandra removes the phone from the ear to look at its screen only to find out that the call is still connected but Chloe is nowhere on the line. She puts the phone back on the ear and all she could only hear is the echo of her call.
Within the blink of an eye, Chloe was already in the office. God only knows how she managed to get there that quick.
"Jeeze! Chloe looks like she has just seen a ghost." Sandra says to herself as she cautiously removes the laptop bag from Chloe's hands and moves straight to the desk and starts working on the content of the advert.
“Under which folder is the advert saved on?” Asks Sandra, glancing at her oddly.
“Check under new miss USA folder.”
Sandra is trying all she can to concentrate on what she is doing but can’t keep her eyes off this eccentric Chloe she is seeing today. The entire four years she has known Chloe for, she has never seen her looking this sloppy.
“Why look me like that Sandra?” Chloe scrutinizes herself and gets a little bit embarrassed when noticing some buttons of her shirt skewed. She quickly excuses herself to the bathroom. While she is away, Sandra remains laughing out loud and murmuring to herself.
“I just wonder what those hundred mirrors surrounding her house are for, let alone the ones inside her bedroom? The hair is sloppy, the buttons of the shirt are facing their own direction, the makeup is faulty and she reeks of alcohol, jeez Chloe.”
she shakes her head in disbelief while glaring at the laptop screen.
Chloe finally walks back in, disturbing Sandra’s hovering thoughts. She's now looking much better than how she was when she walked in earlier on.
Sandra, after scrutinizing her, she asks. “Is the age restriction for the new applicants still the same as all the other years?”
“Yes, 20 to 25 years.” Chloe responds without looking her in the eyes and grabs her car keys from the desk to head to the door exit.
“You can’t tell me you are leaving already?” Sandra pauses a bit with eyes wide open
“My sisters are waiting for me at home.”
“Come on Chloe, tomorrow is Sunday and you can still go home to your sisters. Besides, there’s this new club which just opened a month ago. I want us to go check it out. Who knows, we might bump into your future husband there.” She sticks her tongue out and rolls eyes.
“Sandra, you know my reasons for not wanting to go to clubs.” She takes a step back with a loud sigh and throws herself on the only two-seater couch at the corner of her office adjacent to the desk where Sandra is seated and fiddles with her phone while wait for Sandra to finish. Her office is as big and spacious as her bedroom and the interior design is almost like the inside of the whole mansion except for it doesn’t have even a single mirror. So strange for someone like Chloe who is so obsessed with mirrors.
“No need to worry about signing of autographs, almost everyone who goes in there is their own celebrity.” Reaffirms Sandra as she glances at Chloe then back at the laptop screen. She knows Chloe can do all what it takes to prevent her from getting the spotlight, though sometimes it can be difficult because she is indeed a public figure and has no control of it. From Sandra’s statement, Chloe felt no need to ask further questions and before she knew it Sandra was already done and shutting down the laptop to put it back inside its bag and handing it back to her while leading the way out to the parking lot.
Eminent nightclub is one of the most expensive clubs in New York which comes with exclusive perks to make sure you party in luxury and style. The club’s name is self-explanatory, hosting mostly top celebrities and prominent business tycoons who are always occupying the long leg bar chairs made from Saur tree.
When approaching the club’s entrance, Chloe could just tell by the soft and graceful music playing inside and the formally dressed masculine bouncers standing at the door that this is indeed an elegant nightclub. She looks at herself one more time to validate her own attire.
She becomes at ease when Sandra nods with a big smile signalling to her that all is well and that she looks the part. Sandra holds her by the hand to lead her in one of the corner tables in the VVIP sections where she instructed her to settle down while they both wait for the waiter to attend to them. Whilst Chloe is still mesmerized by the mirrored ceilings which are covered in high art opulence that bares a stark contrast to the more futuristic and modern furniture on ground that reminds her of her own house, there emerges two good looking, half naked hunks revealing their six pack abs each carrying a drink in a hand and dancing erotically towards them, one handing the drink to her and the other one handing it to Sandra.
"Hmm…" drools Sandra as she stands up, moves closer to the hunk who just gave her the drink and starts dancing with him. She winks at Chloe who is just sitting stagnant on the chair looking bored, signaling for her to also dance with the other hunk. Chloe's attention has subconsciously shifted to the direction in which the other two beautiful half naked women dancers have dissapeared into. The women dancers passed their table heading to the other table immediately after the two hunks approached their table. The two women dancers apparently were also going to entertain the other table of two male customers who happen to be the extravagant regulars of the club.
"Excuse me, I have to take this call." whispers Chloe into Sandra’s ear as she swiftly stands up with the phone on her ear, living behind the hunks with Sandra and rushes to the same direction in which the two female dancers have dissapeared into.
"Thanks a lot for the entertainment, I will tell our waiter to call on you again before we leave." Sandra gives out a smirk accompanied by a tip and the hunks quietly leave her sight still displaying their friendly demeanor. Her mind is now distracted by Chloe's sudden phone call which did not even give out a ringing sound.
The waiter immediately attends to their table soon after the hunks left as if she has been keeping an eye at them all along.
"Good afternoon! My name is Stacey and I will be your waiter for the evening." Stacey smiles as she yanks out her writing pad from the pocket of her apron to take down the order.
"Would you like the same drink the gentleman have blessed you with or would you prefer something completely different?" Adds Stacey
"Hmmm.. Could you please.. " Sandra prolongs her response, keeping a stare at the direction where Chloe has since dissapeared into hoping she will barge at last.
"I can come back ma'am." Says Stacey, also shifting her eye sight towards the direction Sandra is starring in.
Sandra tilts her chair, moving it away a bit from the table so she could move away from it. "Sorry about that, please give me two glasses of whiskey on the rocks. I will be right back."
"Chloe never spends so much time on the call, especially after working hours. Can this mean she is seeing someone? No ways, it can't be." murmurs Sandra as she nods her head in disagreement, also
heading the same direction as Chloe.
It didn't take Sandra even a minute to spot Chloe happily dancing amongst the group of naked female dancers at the regulars' table. The same two female dancers who got Chloe's attention earlier on were now joined in by the other three to make it five. That was the special request made by the said regulars.
Sandra stands there helplessly starring at her. One could say she is gathering strength to approach her. Chloe on the other hand is having a fun time of her life and she is not aware that Sandra is looking at her.
"Shuu!" Sandra sighs loudly and finally goes straight to her and delicately holds her by the hand to lead her back to the their table quietly.
"I'm sorry Sandra, but can we just go home? " Pleads Chloe, standing infront of the table staring at the two glasses of whiskey placed on the their table.
"And the drinks?" Sandra asks with eyes wide open
"It's fine. I will pay for them." Chloe takes out cash from her purse, enough to cover the bill and the tip. She cautiously puts it on the table. On their way to the door exit, they meet up with Stacey heading to their table to check up on them.
"We left your money on the table Stacey." Confirms Sandra
Stacey gives out a graceful smile followed by and a thumb signal to her statement.
"Was that our waiter?" shockingly asks Chloe, turning her head around to drool over Stacey's tiny bums dissapearing into the corner table. Luckily Sandra couldn't get to witness her facial expression, God only knows what she could have made out of it.
"I don't see how that still matters." responds Sandra, keeping her face straight and heading to the parking lot. Chloe shrugs and follows her.
