The room fell into a heavy silence as Rhett stared directly into Ryan’s eyes, searching for answers without saying a word.
Ryan shook his head, sensing where things were headed. He knew if he didn’t act fast, the teasing would never stop.
“Yup! He’s officially in love!” Kayden shouted, throwing an arm playfully around Ryan’s neck.
“You two seriously need to leave—I’m trying to write lyrics here,” Ryan said, pushing them both toward the door.
“You can’t shut us out like this!” Rhett yelled.
“How am I supposed to talk when I know you’re still in love with her?” Ryan shot back at Rhett.
That silenced Rhett.
With one last shove, Ryan pushed them out and locked the door behind him. Kayden kept banging.
“Hey! Heeeyyy!”
Inside, Ryan finally sat down, letting the peace settle. He returned to his notebook, scribbling lyrics. As the leader of K2R, Ryan was known for his calm, composed presence. Fans adored his soft smile and gentle aura, but behind closed doors, he was colder—especially toward his parents, people he avoided as much as he could.
Though he joked around with the group, rehearsals were different. Ryan became focused, strict, and disciplined. He wrote most of K2R’s songs alongside Rhett, and maybe that was why the others respected him so deeply. He wasn’t just a leader—he carried weight, responsibility, and a quiet pain no one talked about.
He chuckled softly, shaking his head as he thought about how chaotic the guys could be.
Meanwhile, outside…
“That was true,” Kayden said, glancing sideways at Rhett.
“What was true?” Rhett replied flatly.
“Do you still love Aubree?”
Rhett swallowed hard. His throat tightened, the answer heavy on his tongue. He said nothing—because he didn’t need to.
His silence spoke for him.
“You better stay away from my sister,” Kai warned, suddenly appearing. He shoved Rhett hard in the chest before walking away without another word.
Rhett sighed deeply, running a hand through his hair.
“I guess that’s a yes,” Kayden muttered, nodding knowingly as he patted Rhett’s shoulder.
“You’ll be fine.”
But Rhett wasn’t sure of that at all.

The Mitchells’ Mansion
A soft knock echoed through Cassandra’s pink-painted room before the maid entered quietly, carrying a glass of her favorite strawberry juice. She placed it gently on the bedside table and bowed slightly before leaving.
The room felt warm yet lonely. Posters of K2R decorated the walls, reminders of a dream that felt closer yet painfully far. On her dressing table sat a framed photograph of her and Ava, taken years ago when life was simpler and laughter came easily.
Cassandra picked up her juice but barely took a sip before standing. With slow steps, she left her room and walked toward her parents’ bedroom.
“Evening, Mum,” she muttered softly, wrapping her arms around her mother the moment she entered.
“What’s wrong, my dear?” Henry asked, lowering the newspaper as he studied her face.
Her parents had already decided—she would attend Chung-Ang University, close to home, safe, controlled. But Cassandra had made up her mind. She would not go. Just like her sister Cheryl had once refused, choosing freedom over obedience and paying a heavy price for it.
“What’s wrong, baby?” Charlotte asked again, gently stroking Cassandra’s hair.
“It’s like you never have time for me,” Cassandra said quietly, her voice breaking. “You’re always traveling… always busy.”
Tears streamed down her cheeks.
“And now you don’t even want the best for me,” she added shakily.
Charlotte sighed. “We are thinking of your future.”
“My future is there,” Cassandra cried. “The Royal College in Los Angeles. That’s where I want to go.”
Henry frowned. “We’ve discussed this.”
“You refused me last time,” Cassandra whispered, her hands trembling. “And you saw what happened to me.”
Silence filled the room.
“You saw how sick I became,” she continued, lifting her sleeve slightly. Her wrist looked thinner now, fragile compared to the chubby arms she once had. “I stopped eating. I couldn’t sleep. I lost weight… I lost myself.”
Charlotte’s eyes softened.
“I was happy before,” Cassandra said. “I laughed. I smiled. I was healthy. Then you said no, and everything changed.”
Henry exhaled heavily.
“You don’t understand,” Cassandra went on, desperation rising in her voice. “Royal College is my dream. The same dream Cheryl had. You took it away from her… and she left.”
At the mention of her sister’s name, both parents stiffened.
“Don’t bring her into this,” Henry said sharply.
“Why not?” Cassandra asked, tears falling freely now. “Why do you act like she never existed? You never cared about her. That’s why she left. And now… I haven’t heard from her in years.”
Her chest tightened painfully.
“I miss her every day,” Cassandra whispered. “She was all I had when I was little.”
Charlotte looked away, guilt flashing briefly across her face.
“We’re trying to protect you,” she said quietly.
“By trapping me?” Cassandra asked. “If you love me, let me go. Let me breathe.”
The room stayed silent for a long moment.
Finally, Henry spoke.
“Fine,” he said slowly. “We will allow you to attend the Royal College… in Los Angeles.”
Cassandra froze.
“Really?” she whispered.
“But under strict conditions,” he added. “And we expect excellence.”
Cassandra didn’t care. Joy exploded in her chest as she hugged her parents tightly, tears of relief soaking her mother’s shoulder.
“Thank you,” she cried. “Thank you so much.”
After they left her room later that night, Cassandra sat quietly on her bed, clutching the old photo of her and Cheryl.
“I wish you were here,” she murmured. “I wish you could see this.”
Her heart ached with longing.
Then her eyes drifted to Ava’s picture.
Ava—her best friend. The girl her parents despised simply because she was poor. The one person who never judged her, never controlled her.
Cassandra smiled softly and made a silent promise.
I’ll tell Ava first.
I’ll tell her I’m going to the Royal College… our dream school.
And for the first time in a long while, hope bloomed quietly in her heart.
