My mother's sharp voice jolted me right out of my sweet, slightly *embarrassing* dream. I blinked, confused, as she yanked the blanket off me. "Mum!" I groaned, still half-asleep. Little did I know, I had been sleep-pouting like a lovesick puppy probably waiting for a kiss in my dream. *Ugh, what the hell, Ava? A wet dream? Seriously?* "What are you still doing in bed? You're going to be late for school!" Mum shouted again. My eyes darted to the alarm clock. Wide. Open. "Gosh! I'm so late!" I gasped. "But Mum, it's my last day in school!" "Exactly! Now get ready and come down for breakfast," she said, already storming out and shutting the door behind her. I didn't waste another second-I dove into the bathroom. No time to comb my hair, no time to breathe. It's the *last day of high school* before exams. Who cares about a brush? My eyes scanned the messy room on my way out. Clothes were everywhere, pictures of *K2R* covered the walls, along with posters of *Nikki Bea*, my favorite K-pop singer. There were also frames of me with *Seth*-my high school bestie and part-time model-and *Cassie*, my childhood friend. "Phew... whatever," I muttered and dashed out. "You scared me!" Celeste, my annoying little brother, gasped as I zoomed out like a tornado. "You look like a ghost!" he laughed hysterically, clutching his stomach and pointing at me with his tiny index finger. I gave him the deadliest stare ever-one that said *I will deal with you later*-then rushed out of the house. "Ava! Your breakfast!" Mum yelled from behind. "I'm late, Mum!" I shouted back, not slowing down. "Gosh, I'm really late today," I mumbled while running. "Oh! And I totally forgot to introduce myself..." I'm Ava Walker. I was born to Mr. Theo and Mrs. Sophia Walker. My dad is American, and my mum is Korean. Though I was born in the U.S., we've been living in Korea ever since Dad's business went bankrupt. We were once rich... but not anymore. The reason for our downfall? I honestly don't know. We now live in a small house that used to belong to my mum's parents. Since she was their only child and they passed away long ago, we moved in with no better option. I live there with my family-my 17-year-old sister, *Alexa Walker*, smart and chaotic in her own way, and my 15-year-old little brother, *Celeste*, my rude but annoyingly funny sibling. And of course, me. I'm 19. We aren't poor, but we're not exactly okay either. We're *managing*-especially now that my dad is fighting cancer and is bound to a wheelchair. That's a whole pain of its own. I'm quiet, shy, and emotional. But mention my family in a bad way and I'll flip. I don't like talking much, and I hate being judged, especially for something I didn't choose-my family situation. *Gosh... that crazy dream made me late again!* - *THE GREATEST HIGH SCHOOL - TGHS* Located in Seoul, TGHS is one of the most respected schools in South Korea. The school accepts both the rich and poor, but brilliance is the key to getting in. If you're not smart, don't even dream of it. But make no mistake-poor students are always bullied. That's the ugly truth. The school is known for its strict rules, high standards, and academic excellence. - Ava ran all the way to school, her hair wild and uniform wrinkled. Without looking, she barged into the classroom-only to be met by laughter from her classmates. That's when it hit her. There was a teacher in the room. *I'm so dead...* she thought, freezing in her tracks. Here, punishment for being late wasn't detention or standing in front of the class. No, it was worse. They'd deduct points from your grade. One mistake, one point gone. And every point matters. --- The school was famous for its ranking system. By ranks, I mean class positions. There were only 100 students, divided into four classes of 25 each-Class A for the top 25 scorers down to Class D for the lowest-ranked students. The lower classes were filled with spoiled rich kids who thought they owned the place. That's what Greatest High was notorious for: strict rules and harsh punishments. Many students had been suspended or even expelled, and getting into another school after being expelled was almost impossible-unless, of course, you came from a wealthy family. No dating, no smoking, no involvement with illegal substances, no being caught in inappropriate places, no bullying, no cheating-these were just some of the many rules. Breaking any of them meant facing suspension or expulsion without mercy. "Ava Walker, out of this class. Now!" the teacher shouted. Without a word, Ava quietly gathered her things and left the classroom. --- Ava belonged to Class A, ranked as the second-best student in the entire school. She only managed to snatch first place twice-and only when her main competitor was absent. The school was a battlefield of high achievers, all vying for the top spot. No surprise the youngest-ever president of South Korea graduated from here. Even the current School Chairman was an alumnus, known among the top 25 students of Class A. Everyone dreamed of being in Class A because it guaranteed top positions after graduation. *"That's it,"* Ava muttered with a sigh of relief, *"it's our last year of high school anyway."* A small smile crept onto her face-she was proud of how well she'd followed the school's strict rules... until now. This was her first time breaking one. *"Damn... you, my dreams,"* she whispered bitterly. She walked into an empty classroom and stared into space, lost in thought. "*Hey!!*" She jumped at the sudden voice behind her. Immediately, she knew who it was. "Why are you dressed like that? Why is your hair such a mess? What happened to you? Are you okay? Why are you late? Are you hurt? I can't believe *the* Ava finally broke the rules!" Cassandra, her bubbly and talkative friend, kept ranting nonstop. Ava sighed in frustration as Cassandra poked her gently. "Are you okay?" Cassandra asked again. "It's nothing," Ava replied quietly. "Come on, there's something you're not telling me. I just *know* something's wrong," Cassie pressed. "Spit it out now!" "Nothing's wrong, Cassie," Ava said firmly. "Then why were you so late? Did you even look in the mirror before you left?" Cassandra chuckled playfully. --- Cassandra Moon, or Moon Cassie as everyone called her, had been my best friend since we were kids. We'd always been inseparable. Alongside Seth, she was my closest friend, though Seth wasn't a childhood friend like Cassie. Cassie was the second daughter of Moon Hyun Ki and Park Sandra-one of the most famous actresses and models in Korea. Her father was a businessman, constantly traveling around the country. Now I knew where Cassie got her stunning beauty from-her mom was a natural beauty with a youthful glow and perfect figure. Even her older sister was a beauty queen, though I'd only met her when we were younger, so I didn't know much about her. I looked at Cassie, knowing she wouldn't back down until I told her something. She could be stubborn sometimes, but she was also the only one who could always tell when I was lying-she had this incredible intuition. "Don't even give me that look," she said. "I know you better than anyone. You can always tell me anything." I muttered, "Can't believe I had a wet dream... that's why I woke up late." "What was the dream about?" She asked, suddenly serious. "I don't know, but I've been having these weird wet dreams lately," I said, looking down. I tried explaining the dream to Cassie, who found it hilarious. She loves joking about things like this-no wonder she's always stuck at 34th or 35th in class, constantly battling it out with Emma. She's in Class B, just behind Class A where I am. "Wait, you mean you almost kissed him?" Cassie laughed out loud. "Cassie, it's not funny," I frowned. "Huh? Kiss who?" Seth suddenly interrupted, making my frown deepen. "Cassie, stop. I'm serious here," I replied. "So, did you see your so-called prince charming you almost kissed in your dream?" She giggled. "Yes, I saw him," I answered. "So who is he?" Cassie asked, firing questions rapidly. "Is he handsome? Ugly? What does he look like? What's he like? Does he have pink lips and a pointed nose? You always love that!" "Just like my Kai," she added with a grin. "Fool," Seth muttered as I rolled my eyes. Cassie and Seth never got along-they're like cats and rats, always teasing each other. "Cassie, stop!" I shouted, holding my head. Talking to her about this always gave me a headache with her nonstop questions. Seth, clearly curious too, asked while Cassie rolled her eyes at him in annoyance. "Is it someone we know?" he asked. I looked at both of them, their eyes glued on me, waiting for the truth like I was about to spill a secret. Why were they so interested in my dream? "Okay, let me tell you..." I finally said, focusing. "He is...." TBC --
