“Ma’am, breakfast is ready,” Maria informed.
The next time she opened her eyes after witnessing Lily’s murder, she found herself back in his cursed mansion.
“Ma’am? Please eat something,” Maria said sadly.
Jade looked up at her. “I’m not hungry, Maria. I just want water.”
The door suddenly opened and Xavier barged in. “Get out!” he angrily commanded, and Maria ran out.
He grabbed Jade by the arm and pulled her to her feet. “What is wrong with you? You want to starve to death? Is this another way to kill yourself?”
Yes, she had tried to kill herself. Once in the tub, where she almost drowned, and a second time with a knife, which was not very successful.
The third time she tried to end her life, Xavier stopped her before she could throw herself off the balcony.
“Let me go! I hate you! I hate it when you touch me! You disgust me!” Jade tried to fight him off, but she had no strength left.
“Go ahead! Suit yourself! You should hate yourself while you’re at it too. Next time you plan to run from me, you’ll do it alone!” He pushed her onto the bed and walked out.
Jade lay there in tears.
Yes, it was all her fault, and that was why she didn’t deserve to live after she killed the only person who helped her without a second thought—someone with the purest heart.
Lily didn’t think twice or consider herself, even after she heard who was responsible for her misery. Instead, she helped her regardless.
She owed her a debt that her life wasn’t even enough to repay.
Xavier is a monster she will never forgive.
“Ma’am? Boss said you should wear this. He is taking you somewhere special,” Maria said, walking in again.
Jade scoffed at the poor girl’s words.
“Please,” Maria’s eyes filled with tears.
Jade wiped her tears and sat up. “Fine. Run my bath, will you?”
Maria happily obeyed with a smile.
Jade dressed and met him downstairs. She didn’t say a word to him—something he was getting used to, but didn’t like.
“The dress looks good on you.”
“You got it, didn’t you?” she hissed and ignored his hand.
He opened the car door for her.
“Won’t you ask where we’re going?”
“I would, if I cared,” she simply replied and went silent in the car.
Xavier’s fists tightened until his knuckles turned white.
She had no idea how hard it was for him to keep his composure.
When the car stopped after a long drive, he opened the door for her. She had no problem with that anymore.
Jade stepped down gracefully but tripped when she took the first step.
“Are you okay?” He caught her just in time.
Jade blinked twice. She felt dizzy and nauseous.
“I’m good,” she pushed him away, but before she could take another step, she slumped and passed out.
Xavier lifted her back into the car.
“Drive to Dr. Vince,” he commanded.
Xavier stood by the window in a private room of his own hospital.
They were far from home, so he had no other option but to bring her here.
He looked at her, then back out the window.
What was wrong with her this time?
And why wasn’t the damn test result ready yet?
And where was the doctor?
Jade lay peacefully, and for the first time since he brought her back, he noticed how skinny and pale she looked.
She stubbornly refused to eat and seemed determined to starve herself.
He didn’t marry her just to watch her die.
“Ow!” Jade opened her eyes.
“Don’t move too much,” he said, sitting beside her, but she pushed his hand away.
The way she always did—like his touch burned her.
“What am I doing in a hospital?” She avoided his eyes.
“The house is too far,” he replied simply.
“What is wrong with me? I’m sure it’s nothing. I’m just tired, maybe drained.” She tried sitting up and reached for her purse. “Let’s go back. My head hurts and I want rest.”
“The doctor is running some tests. When the results are in, we’ll go. I want to make sure you are fine,” he informed.
Jade rolled her eyes and lay back down. The less she talked to him, the better.
Xavier felt like he was looking at a complete stranger—or at least, that’s how she made him feel.
Dr. Vince walked in.
“The results are in,” he said with a smile.
Xavier and Jade looked at each other.
“Congratulations, Mr. Stone! You’re going to be a father!” Dr. Vince announced happily.
Xavier was stunned. Words failed him, while Jade only blinked.
“No!” Jade turned pale. “No! This can’t be! I can never have a child for this monster!” she growled.
Xavier slowly turned to her. “Excuse me?”
“I’d rather die!” she spat, then turned to the doctor. “I don’t want this child! I want an abortion!”
Xavier barely stopped himself from laughing out of anger. “Are you insane?!” He grabbed her chin roughly. “Say those words again and I swear I’ll kill you myself!”
“I will never have your child!”
“You will bear my children, nurture them, and give birth to each and every one of them! Understood?” he growled, tightening his grip.
“I will remove it myself then!” she threatened.
“No, please don’t do that, Mrs. Stone,” the doctor quickly said. “At this stage, it’s very dangerous. It might harm you too. The baby is three months old, which is a critical stage. You’ve already exhausted yourself and endangered the baby a few times.”
Xavier stopped, slowly released her, and stepped back. He ran his fingers through his hair, thinking quickly.
“What’s wrong?” Dr. Vince asked.
“You have to kill the child,” Xavier stated.
The doctor looked confused. “But why?”
“That child isn’t his,” Jade said with a small smile, holding her belly. “This is Aaron’s child.”
Xavier turned to her with a pained expression.
“Did you hear me, doctor?” he asked.
“Over my dead body will I let you kill this baby. You’re a monster!” Jade sat up. “I’ll keep my baby! And it will remind you of the love I shared with Aaron—the kind of love you will never get from me!”
“Shut up!” Xavier breathed heavily. “Dr. Vince, don’t make me repeat myself!”
The doctor nodded and rushed out of the room.
“I won’t let you harm my child!” she cried.
“Just cooperate, and this won’t be too painful. You don’t have to get attached to it,” he said, sitting beside her.
“How can you be so heartless? You want to kill an innocent child with no remorse whatsoever?” she wiped her face.
“Moments ago, you had no problem killing the innocent baby when you thought it was mine!” he said bitterly.
“It wouldn’t be so innocent then, would it?” she shot back.
“So it is not because of me?”
“I refuse to bring another human as terrible as you into this world! And this baby, I’m keeping it!” Jade said, and without warning, she dashed out of the room.
“Jade!” Xavier ran after her.
She had no idea where she got the strength from, but she had to get out of there.
Jade dodged wheelchairs, body bags, and nurses as she made her way through the hospital.
She didn’t know where she was going until she found herself outside the building—barefoot and in a hospital gown.
“Jade!” she turned to see him running after her.
She had no idea where to go. Where was she? She looked left and right.
“Jade!”
But he would find her. No matter how far she ran, he would find her.
What would she do now? Who would she run to? She couldn’t risk another life.
Unconsciously, she stepped backward.
She was slowly moving into the road while tears blurred her vision.
Then she noticed Xavier suddenly stop. He looked to the side in horror, then back at her.
“Jade!”
He shouted as a truck slammed into her from the side at high speed, running her over.
