Chapter 11

One way or another, she must escape today. "I want to go for a drive," Jade informed Xavier the very next day. She felt suffocated staying in her room and having to look at that goddamn dress every single time she walked in. She was grateful for it though. It served as a reminder. "Aren't you supposed to be..." "I'm fine," she said with a little desperation. He granted her wish, and she picked the car of her choice. Jade happily drove out of the mansion, knowing that she would never see it again. When she hit the expressway, she noticed Xavier's men following from a safe distance. "Of course," she muttered with a roll of her eyes. She knew she couldn't afford to fail. Soon enough, she got stuck at a traffic light. Perfect! Jade stuck her head out of the window to scan the area and finally spotted Lily in a Corolla. She sneakily climbed out of the car and crawled to the other side of the road to meet her friend. "Jay!" Lily happily hugged her. "I'm so happy to see you. What happened yesterday? Didn't it work? What's all this?" "I don't have time. The car is on the other side. Are you sure you want to take this risk?" Jade asked worriedly. She knew exactly what she was getting her friend into. "I'm down," Lily assured her. "I have some clothes and everything you asked for in the boot." "I have to run." Jade kissed Lily on the cheek and waved as her friend ignited the car and zoomed off. Finally, freedom! Jade happily drove at full speed until she left town. She didn't have any destination in mind, but anywhere away from Xavier would do. But then she spotted a line of black Bugattis arranged ahead of her. They blocked the road. Jade's heart stopped. Her palms started sweating, and she couldn't control the steering wheel as she slammed on the brakes. No, no, no! Tears gathered in her eyes, blinding her. She looked back and tried to reverse, but more cars pulled up behind her. "f**k!" She angrily hit the steering wheel. "f**k! f**k! f**k!" she cried. No, this can't be it. Xavier can't win. Jade quickly climbed out and made a run for the side of the road, but she didn't get far. She was stopped by a hefty-looking woman. "Don't you dare touch me! I'm not going back there!" Jade couldn't fight her. The woman simply knocked her out with a light punch. --- When Jade regained consciousness, Xavier was once again by her side, only this time he was mad as hell. "You ungrateful little wench!" Carrie said. And what the hell was she doing in her room? "You have everything anyone could ever dream of, and yet you pull stupid stunts just to get attention. Aren't you ashamed of yourself? You dirty, miserable peasant!" Carrie added. "I really don't know why he's so soft on you. You deserve to be punished and treated like the servant that you are!" Jade looked from Carrie to Xavier. What was he going to do to her? "And to think you could actually be an obedient wife, deserving of his—" "If obedient means being a slave or prisoner with no rights whatsoever, obeying his every command like I have no will of my own, then thank you, I'll pass," Jade cut her short. "What will? You are worth nothing! You are nothing!" Carrie said clearly. "Stop acting like you're important." "Well, I don't need you to—" "Shut up!" Xavier angrily snapped. His cold eyes fell on Jade, who visibly trembled. She watched him quickly regain his composure. "This is Raquel." He pointed at a lady whom, for some reason, Jade hadn't noticed standing beside Carrie. "She is your private bodyguard." Now that made sense. Jade couldn't decide whether to be angry or not because Xavier was throwing daggers at her. "I'm taking your phone because, obviously, you don't want it. We are getting married tomorrow. You should be ready by ten," he said dismissively before walking out, with Raquel right behind him. What? Jade froze. She became pale and blank. Wedding? Tomorrow? How? No. Tears freely flowed down her cold cheeks. "You have no idea how much I hate you right now..." "I'm pretty sure I do." Jade angrily jumped down from the bed. "If you want my life so badly, why don't we trade, huh?" Carrie let out a short laugh. "Stop pretending, Jade. We both know you want this more than anything." "I'd trade anything not to get married to that monster tomorrow! How can he do this to me?" Jade cried. "Oh, poor thing. I also think you shouldn't get married to him. You don't deserve this. You can't handle all of this. You have no idea how badly I want to get rid of you. I wish you'd just crawl back into whatever hole you came out of, but the decision isn't mine now, is it?" Carrie shook her head with a smile. "But don't worry. I'll always be here when he finally agrees with me, and I'll gladly kick you out myself. I don't know what's wrong with him, but Xavier deserves better." Jade watched her majestically walk out as well. How did she get here, and how could she turn this around? She needed to get out of here! She couldn't get married. Not to him. Jade looked around for her phone. "s**t!" He took her phone! What about her parents? They should know about the wedding. They should at least be allowed to attend it. Jade painfully dropped onto her bed as she wept. This is it. She couldn't fight it anymore. She couldn't, even if she wanted to. This couldn't be happening to her. Could she handle all of this? This new life? Could she really survive it? She was getting married to a man she didn't know. A very brutal man. A complete stranger. Someone she wasn't in love with. How did she go from a free, rich party girl to a caged wife? A Mafia Lord's wife.
