“You have any siblings?” I continued my questions, following him wherever he went.
This was definitely better than going to a farm.
“Yes, a sister. Our mother died while giving birth to her. We stay with our father,” he answered.
What drew me to him was his simplicity. He didn’t even mind talking to a complete stranger.
“I don’t think there are any schools around here. Did you go to school in the city?” I asked.
“Yes. I couldn’t complete middle and final year, so I stayed back to help with the farm. But my sister is in the city,” he replied.
“So you are here catching fish and tilling the earth just so she can go to school? That is not fair.”
“She’s my sister, and I want what’s best for her. Sometimes, you don’t have to be selfish.”
“But it’s good to be selfish sometimes.”
