Chapter 8

1092 Words

Just as I was about to lose all hope, the heavy warehouse door was kicked open. A tall figure charged into the fire without hesitation. He ran through the smoke and flames straight toward me. It was Ethan. Firelight flickered across his pale, determined face. Ignoring the raging flames and brutal heat, he rushed to my side and yanked at the rope around me with his bare hands until it snapped. Flames scorched his skin, turning it red and raising blisters, but he never backed away. He carefully lifted me into a bridal carry, turned, and ran out of the burning warehouse. The instant we escaped the fire, fresh air filled my lungs. I gulped in air, and my mind cleared slightly. Cradled against his chest, I could clearly see large burns across his arms, neck, and the side of his face.
