Chapter 8
Vanessa sat down beside Emma Jane on the train, curious to see what exactly the TGV experience was all about. She couldn't help but admire the French for naming their train ‘the very fast train’. It seemed promising for any transportation, especially if it lived up to the bravado. She'd been impressed with herself as well. Although she didn't speak any French, the tickets she’d purchased online had worked without a hitch in person.
When they’d arrived at the huge train station, Gare de l’Est, in the heart of Paris, Vanessa had been overwhelmed by its enormity. The juxtaposition between grandeur and function was something she’d never experienced before. When they’d found their train, she'd been more than a little relieved as she’d begun to worry about getting lost.
