THE LAST MESSAGE

Episode 5 — The Address

Daniel stared at the key in his hand.

Go there alone.

The message remained on his screen.

Every instinct told him not to move.

Someone had been inside his apartment.

Someone knew about Maya.

And now they wanted him to go to the one place connected to the night she disappeared.

He looked at the address again.

47 Ashwood Lane.

Daniel hadn't seen those words in seven years.

The building was on the edge of the city, surrounded by abandoned warehouses and empty lots.

According to the police report, Maya's car had been found less than a mile away.

Daniel had asked the detectives about the building once.

They told him it had nothing to do with her disappearance.

He never believed them.

His phone buzzed.

You have thirty minutes.

Daniel's eyes narrowed.

Or what?

For the first time, the reply didn't come immediately.

The silence felt worse.

Then a photograph appeared.

Daniel opened it.

His blood turned cold.

It was taken outside his apartment building.

Only minutes earlier.

The picture showed Daniel standing beside his window.

Looking down at the street.

Someone had been watching him from close by.

A second message appeared.

You were supposed to be alone.

Daniel turned toward the open front door.

His apartment suddenly felt smaller.

Exposed.

He locked the door, then checked it twice.

After seven years of waiting for answers, he finally had a clue.

But someone else had been waiting too.

Someone who knew exactly how to make him follow.

Daniel grabbed his jacket and the key.

Before leaving, he looked around the apartment one last time.

Then he noticed something on the wall beside the door.

A small mark.

Three words had been scratched into the paint.

DON'T TRUST MAYA.

Daniel stopped.

For seven years, he had searched for Maya.

For seven years, he had believed she was the victim.

Now, for the first time, a terrible question entered his mind.

What if Maya had been hiding something from him too?
