For several seconds, nobody moved.
The message remained on the screen of Maya's second phone.
WELCOME BACK, MAYA.
Rain tapped against the metal walls around them.
Daniel stared at the words.
Then at his sister.
Maya's face had gone completely still.
“What does that mean?” he asked.
She didn't answer.
Sarah stood at the end of the passage, watching them.
The two figures behind her remained in the shadows.
Daniel stepped in front of Maya.
“Stay where you are.”
Sarah gave him a tired smile.
“You really don't understand anything, do you?”
“I'm starting to understand enough.”
“No.”
She took a step forward.
“If you understood, you wouldn't be standing between me and Maya.”
Daniel's phone buzzed.
DON'T LET SARAH TAKE THE SECOND PHONE.
Daniel looked down.
Maya was still holding it.
Sarah noticed his movement.
Her expression changed.
“Give me the phone.”
Maya's fingers tightened around it.
“No.”
Sarah's calm smile disappeared.
“Maya.”
Daniel looked at his sister.
Her breathing had become shallow.
She stepped backward.
“Elena immediately moved toward her.
“Maya, look at me.”
Maya didn't.
Her eyes remained fixed on Sarah.
“I remember you.”
Sarah stopped.
Daniel looked at Maya.
“What?”
Maya swallowed.
“I remember the room.”
Nathan suddenly stepped forward.
“Maya, don't.”
She turned sharply toward him.
“Don't tell me what to remember.”
Daniel looked between them.
“The room with no windows.”
Nobody answered.
Maya's face tightened.
“Yes.”
Daniel felt a chill move through him.
“What happened there?”
Maya closed her eyes.
For several seconds, she said nothing.
Then she whispered—
“I woke up there.”
The rain seemed louder.
Daniel took a step closer.
“Maya.”
She opened her eyes.
“I didn't know how I got there.”
Sarah's expression hardened.
“You're confused.”
Maya laughed bitterly.
“That was always your answer.”
Daniel turned toward Sarah.
“What did you do to her?”
Sarah folded her arms.
“You should be asking what Nathan did.”
Nathan's face changed.
Daniel noticed.
“What is she talking about?”
Nathan looked away.
Daniel's anger rose.
“No.”
He pointed toward him.
“You're going to answer.”
Nathan shook his head.
“Not here.”
Daniel laughed.
“Of course.”
Marcus stepped forward.
“Daniel, she's trying to divide us.”
Daniel turned toward him.
“Us?”
Marcus stopped.
Daniel stared at all of them.
“For seven years, every single one of you knew something about my sister.”
Elena whispered, “Daniel—”
“No.”
His voice echoed through the narrow passage.
“Don't say my name like you understand what this feels like.”
Elena looked down.
Daniel turned back to Maya.
“You disappeared.”
Maya's eyes filled with tears.
“I know.”
“I thought you were dead.”
“I know.”
“I buried you.”
Her expression broke.
Daniel looked away for a moment.
Then he faced her again.
“Why didn't you contact me?”
Maya's hand began shaking.
She looked at the second phone.
“I tried.”
Daniel froze.
“What?”
Sarah immediately stepped forward.
“Don't.”
Daniel turned toward her.
“Stay away.”
Maya looked at him.
“I sent messages.”
Daniel's heart began pounding.
“What messages?”
“I don't know.”
Daniel stared at her.
“What do you mean?”
Maya shook her head.
“I would wake up somewhere different.”
Daniel's expression changed.
“Different where?”
“I don't remember.”
Nathan moved closer.
“Maya was moving from place to place.”
She looked at him with anger.
“You don't know where I was.”
“I was trying to find you.”
“You found me.”
Nathan went silent.
Daniel looked at him.
“You found her?”
Nathan didn't answer.
Maya answered instead.
“Yes.”
Daniel felt cold.
“Where?”
Maya stared at Nathan.
“In the room.”
Daniel's phone buzzed.
ASK NATHAN HOW LONG MAYA WAS THERE.
Daniel looked at Nathan.
“How long?”
Nathan's face hardened.
“Daniel.”
“How long?”
Nathan said nothing.
Maya's voice became quiet.
“I don't know.”
Daniel looked at her.
“What?”
“There were no windows.”
Her fingers moved around the old phone.
“No clock.”
Daniel's chest tightened.
“I didn't know if it was day or night.”
Elena covered her mouth.
Maya continued.
“Sometimes someone would come inside.”
Sarah's expression changed.
Daniel noticed.
“Who?”
Maya looked directly at Sarah.
Daniel turned slowly.
Sarah said nothing.
Maya's voice shook.
“She would ask me questions.”
Sarah laughed once.
“That isn't what happened.”
Maya's eyes filled with anger.
“You kept asking me the same thing.”
Daniel stared at Sarah.
“What?”
Maya swallowed.
“Where is the recording?”
Everything stopped.
Daniel looked at Nathan.
Then Marcus.
Then Elena.
The recording.
It always came back to the recording.
“What recording?” Daniel asked.
Sarah smiled faintly.
“You still don't know?”
Daniel's patience broke.
He stepped toward her.
“What recording?”
The two figures behind Sarah moved.
Marcus immediately stepped between them.
“Daniel, stop.”
Daniel turned.
“Why?”
“Because this is exactly what she wants.”
Sarah shook her head.
“No.”
She looked at Daniel.
“What I want is for you to finally understand.”
Maya suddenly grabbed Daniel's arm.
He looked at her.
“Daniel.”
Her voice was barely audible.
“What?”
She looked at the second phone.
“There is something on it.”
Daniel frowned.
“What?”
“I couldn't open it.”
Sarah's face changed instantly.
Nathan noticed.
“So that's why you came.”
Maya stepped backward.
Daniel looked at the phone.
The screen had gone dark again.
“Give it to me.”
Maya hesitated.
Daniel held out his hand.
After several seconds, she placed it in his palm.
The phone felt lighter than he expected.
Daniel pressed the power button.
Nothing happened.
He pressed it again.
Still nothing.
Sarah took another step forward.
“Give me the phone.”
Daniel looked at her.
“No.”
The two figures behind her moved closer.
Marcus immediately raised his hand.
“Don't.”
Sarah stopped.
Daniel's own phone buzzed.
He looked down.
A message had appeared.
THE SECOND PHONE OPENS WITH THE SILVER KEY.
Daniel froze.
The silver key.
His hand moved instinctively toward his pocket.
Sarah saw it.
Her expression changed.
“Daniel.”
He looked at her.
“How do you know about the key?”
She didn't answer.
Daniel stepped backward.
Nathan whispered, “Don't use it.”
Daniel turned.
“Why?”
Nathan looked at the second phone.
“Because once you open it, they will know.”
Daniel almost laughed.
“They already know where I am.”
“No.”
Nathan's face was serious.
“You don't understand.”
Daniel looked around them.
The dark warehouses.
The rain.
The people surrounding him.
His sister, alive after seven years.
His father, somehow alive after twelve.
Nothing made sense anymore.
“Then explain it.”
Nathan looked at Sarah.
Then at the two figures behind her.
Finally, he looked at Daniel.
“The second phone was never just Maya's phone.”
Daniel frowned.
“What does that mean?”
“It belonged to someone before her.”
Maya stared at Nathan.
Daniel looked at her.
“You knew?”
She shook her head.
“No.”
Nathan continued.
“The phone was part of something your father was investigating.”
Daniel felt his stomach tighten.
“My father again.”
Sarah smiled.
“Now we're getting somewhere.”
Daniel turned toward her.
“You knew my father.”
Sarah's smile disappeared.
For the first time, she looked uncomfortable.
Daniel took a step forward.
“You knew him.”
Maya stared at Sarah.
Sarah looked toward the ground.
Then she said—
“Everyone in this story knew your father.”
Silence.
Daniel felt the words settle inside him.
Everyone.
Elena.
Marcus.
Nathan.
Sarah.
Maya.
His father was at the center of all of it.
But why?
Daniel looked at the silver key.
Then at the second phone.
“What does the key open?”
Nathan answered quietly.
“A file.”
Daniel frowned.
“On the phone?”
“Yes.”
“And what's inside it?”
Nathan's expression changed.
“The reason your father disappeared.”
Daniel froze.
Sarah stepped forward.
“Don't listen to him.”
Daniel looked at her.
“Why?”
“Because your father didn't disappear.”
Daniel stared.
Sarah's voice became quieter.
“He chose to leave.”
Maya suddenly spoke.
“No.”
Everyone turned toward her.
Maya's eyes were fixed on Sarah.
“I remember something.”
Sarah went still.
Maya's breathing became heavier.
Daniel moved closer.
“What do you remember?”
Maya stared into the distance.
“The night before I ran.”
Daniel waited.
She whispered—
“Dad came to see me.”
Everything went silent.
Daniel stopped breathing.
“What?”
Maya looked at him.
“He was alive.”
Daniel's hands began shaking.
Sarah closed her eyes.
Nathan stepped forward.
“Maya, stop.”
She ignored him.
“He told me not to trust anyone.”
Daniel's heart pounded.
Maya continued.
“Not Elena.”
Elena went pale.
“Not Marcus.”
Marcus looked away.
“Not Nathan.”
Nathan's face tightened.
Then Maya looked directly at Sarah.
“And especially not her.”
Sarah's expression became cold.
Daniel stepped in front of Maya again.
“What did my father tell you?”
Maya opened her mouth.
But before she could answer, every phone around them began ringing.
Daniel's.
Elena's.
Marcus's.
Nathan's.
Even Maya's dead phone lit up.
The sound filled the narrow passage.
Unknown Number.
Nobody moved.
Then the phones stopped.
All at once.
Daniel's screen changed.
A video was playing automatically.
His father appeared.
Robert Reed.
Alive.
Looking directly into the camera.
Daniel's breath caught.
His father spoke.
“If all of you are together, then I've already failed.”
Daniel stared at the screen.
The video continued.
“But Daniel, listen carefully.”
His father's eyes moved toward something off-camera.
Fear crossed his face.
Then he looked back.
“The person standing closest to you right now is the person who betrayed us.”
Daniel slowly lowered the phone.
Nobody moved.
He looked around.
Maya stood behind him.
Elena to his left.
Marcus near the wall.
Nathan several steps away.
Sarah at the end of the passage.
The rain continued falling.
Daniel's heart pounded.
Whoever had betrayed them—
was standing there.
Then his phone buzzed.
One final message appeared.
LOOK AT THEIR HANDS.
Daniel's eyes moved slowly downward.
And his blood turned cold.
Someone was holding a second silver key.
