CHAPTER 50
“Please, open the envelope, your highness,” Tatiana said, focusing back on the matter on hand.
Noah also became serious and opened the envelope. The envelope contains the documents that Noah needed for their investigation. This was what Tatiana was so busy doing the past few days, aside from managing the businesses they’ve invested in.
Noah furrowed his eyebrows as he read the contents. He’s amazed and at the same time confused.
How did this man obtain such detailed information?
The more Noah reads, the more he became curious as to who this man in front of them really is. Investor J had already proven himself as far capable in the business world. However, Noah didn’t expect he is more than just a businessman.
“I’m impressed.” Noah complimented after he finished reading the documents. He placed it back on the table and Aaron took it to read for himself.
Tatiana grinned under her mask.
Of course, I spent so many sleepless nights for those.
“Glad to hear that,” she said. “As you have read, this is the list of possible suspects for the bombing incident.”
Noah bobbed his head. “Yes...but here’s the thing, Investor J. Before coming here, we have already looked into all the possible suspects we could think of—including the ones you listed,” he stated and Aaron nodded in agreement.
Like what he said, they had already investigated everyone they think are suspicious. This was what Aaron did the past few days. That's why they think Tatiana's document is meaningless, even though Noah and Aaron can't dispute that the data in it was extremely thorough and even surpassed what Aaron had discovered during his own investigation.
“I know,” Tatiana said simply.
Noah’s eyebrows furrowed even deeper. “You know? Then, why are you still giving me this?”
Tatiana paused for a moment before she answered, “Because...you have overlooked these people.”
“What? Impossible! I’m confident that I’ve thoroughly investigated each of them, and I didn’t find anything!” Aaron exclaimed, defending himself.
Aaron did investigate everyone, and as competent as he is, he made sure not to leave any detail no matter how small it is. Tatiana was also aware of that.
The truth is Aaron’s conclusion was understandable. When one looks into it, nothing suspicious can really be found among those people. Even Tatiana had the same conclusion at first. However, Tatiana had an advantage because she knows the novel’s contents.
In the novel, several clues had led Tatiana to become suspicious of the people she listed.
“My Lord, I am not belittling your capability. The truth is, I also thought the same at first. However, I found out something.”
Tatiana pulled the paper closer to her and pointed a name.
“Count Acker and Count Nevill. You did hear about the scandal between them, right?” she pointed.
Aaron nodded. “Of course, it was quite a scandal, so it reached our ears even if we were at the war during that time.”
Two years ago, a scandal surrounding the House of Acker and House of Nevill caused a stir in the capital. Count Acker’s wife was found exiting a hotel with Count Nevill. At first, the issue was still not as big and was regarded as a misunderstanding. However, they were seen once again by a maid. And this time, it was very serious.
This affair caused an uproar in the city especially since Count Acker resorted to violence. He attacked Count Nevill in his house and there's even a rumor that the latter was bedridden for days. Then, the wives also got into a heated argument in public, and several secrets were unfolded. Turns out, Count Acker's wife didn't have only one affair.
“As you know, the affair between Count Nevill and Count Acker’s wife caused quite a stir that it even reached to the point of the lawsuit. Anyways, that’s not really the point.”
Tatiana went back to the paper and pointed another name.
“Baron Miller? Isn’t he the one who got arrested after the scandal? If I heard it right, he will be released next week.” Aaron asked.
Count Acker became really angry, but because he loves his wife so much that he can't punish her aside from filing a divorce, he placed all the blame on Count Nevill. He ordered Baron Miller to sabotage Count Nevill's business and that's when things started to go wrong and everything became such a big mess.
Baron Miller is a noble only in name, and he owes Count Acker big time, so he can't refuse his request. He did as Count Acker said, and the issue that started with an affair became bigger when Count Nevill became bankrupt after Baron Miller’s interference. Count Nevill was so enraged by it that he initiated a lawsuit against Baron Miller. The result was obvious at that time—Count Acker abandoned Baron Miller, causing the latter to be imprisoned for 2 years.
“Yes. He’s our lead as of now.” Tatiana answered.
She observed Noah and Aaron’s expressions and both of them looked very confused.
“How come? He was still in prison during the incident.” Noah pointed.
“That is correct, which is probably why it was easy to overlook. However, this imprisonment made Baron Miller an outcast to society. He was already a noble only in name before the scandal happened, but now he had hit rock bottom.”
Noah pondered over it.
It’s starting to make sense.
Baron Miller should be clouded with rage because of what happened. Hence, he was likely to plot an act of revenge like this.
For J to even consider this... he is as astounding as they said. Noah thought to himself.
“Then...is it Baron Miller?” Aaron questioned, as he also started making sense of what Tatiana had said.
Tatiana turned to him, “Hm... we are still not sure. There are several pieces of evidence that point to him, but I doubt he’s the true culprit.” she answered.
“Evidence?” Noah repeated.
Tatiana glance at Mia, and the latter then placed another envelope on the table. Noah reached for the envelope and went over the document inside it.
Unlike the first one, this document contains different names being linked to one another forming what seems like a web. Besides the names, there were descriptions and explanations about their connections with each other.
“What is this?”
“It’s the evidence that points to Baron Miller,” Tatiana answered. “The first name you’ll see is Gresley. He is a merchant that I came to know, and it turns out he had a connection with Baron Miller. Their relationship is not widely known, so this point can be easily missed.”
Noah frowned. “Then, how did you know about it?”
“Well, if you didn’t know, your highness... I am an investor,” she said. Tatiana didn’t mean to sound sarcastic, but she did anyway.
Aaron glanced at Noah, worriedly. He was already expecting Noah to throw a fit and punish J, but the latter only raised an eyebrow.
If Noah was his usual self, he should be offended by Tatiana’s sarcasm, but for some reason, he found it amusing instead.
He has the guts.
Tatiana cleared her throat to lessen her nervousness. “Anyways, as I was saying, Gresley was in contact with Baron Miller a week before the bombing. Then, after just a day, Gresley went to meet one of the assassins.”
Noah and Aaron then looked at her in surprise.
“What?”
