CHAPTER 44  Kai struck Shawn's hand with a spinning kick, causing him to lose his sword. While Shawn was still stunned, he delivered another kick to the face, and Shawn collapsed to the ground, unconscious.  The announcer went closer to them to check on Shawn’s condition. He then turned to Kai, smiled, and back to the audience.   The announcer lifted Kai’s hand as he shouted, “Ladies and gentlemen, Kael Arder!”  With that, the audience went wild as Kai emerged as the final champion. Everyone was extremely satisfied with Kai’s astonishing performance. Even His Majesty and Tatiana stood up to cheer and clap as well.  Finally, the fight was done.   Tatiana looked around and saw His Majesty looking pleased and happy. She smiled as she thought of the opportunities waiting for Kai.  Kai has always wanted to become a knight. Even in the novel, he was a famous royal knight who fought for the empire. That's why when Kai did not participate in the knight's exam, Tatiana felt horrible, as if she had damaged Kai's future and dream.   However, now that Kai was declared the winner, Tatiana doesn't have to worry anymore as he will be the most sought-after knight. Everyone will come running to find and employ him. But of course, Tatiana knew Kai would choose to be a royal knight above all else.  Regardless, she is quite proud of Kai's successes. She is relieved that he will become a knight as in the story and that their friendship will continue. This is the best outcome she could hope for, and she's happy with how everything turned out. .  There was another meeting in the Imperial Court, but instead of going home early, Tatiana went to look for Kai. She found him in the waiting room, fixing his stuff.  “Kai, congratulations! I’m so happy for you!” Tatiana greeted and hugged him.   Kai was shocked at Tatiana's sudden appearance. He chuckled and hugged her back.   “Thank you so much, J!" he replied. Tatiana stepped back from the hug to look at Kai.  "You were so incredible! Everyone was just so amazed!" she said excitedly, making Kai blush in embarrassment. "Thanks, but I don’t think I’ could do it without you,” he replied as he scratched the back of his head. Tatiana chuckled at his actions.  “Hey, that was all you! I only gave you some tips.” She said and smiled.  Kai smiled back, getting over his shyness. He ruffled her hair like how he did back when they were still training together. Kai is a year older than Tatiana. As he was just an only child, he treats Tatiana like his little sister despite her being the mature one at times.   “Still, thank you. You were the one who trained me, and if it wasn’t for that, I won’t be able to win today.”   When they first met a year ago, Kai was awestruck by Tatiana's talent in fighting. He didn't think twice to befriend her and asked her to train him. Tatiana would teach Kai martial arts while Kai would teach Tatiana swordsmanship. It was a fair exchange that both parties could benefit from, hence why Tatiana agreed to it in the first place. That said, Kai felt extremely grateful for Tatiana. He would not have been able to become this adept in martial arts without Tatiana's training. And although at first, he just wanted to learn her skills, he was also grateful that they became best of friends.   “Hmm... then, you should treat me to a meal when you became an official knight!” she replied, enthusiastically.  “Of course, my lady.” They both laughed when Kai even did a bow like a knight.  ---  reyankleyr
