CHAPTER 44 pt.2
“His Highness will probably call for you soon,” Tatiana said and smiled teasingly at Kai. “Are you ready to become a royal knight?”
“Hmm... Nothing is confirmed yet, but it feels unreal.” he sighed.
Kai thought about it deeply. He also knows that this battle will open several doors for him. One of which is a door that leads to his dream of becoming a knight. It was what he had always wanted, but now that it's right in front of him, he can't help but feel strange.
“Anyways, enough about that. J, I think you’re forgetting something.” Kai changed the topic and narrowed his eyes at Tatiana.
“Huh? What did I forget?” Tatiana asked confused. She tried to think back as to what she forgot, but she got nothing.
Kai glared at her and crossed his arms. “You left me with His Highness,” he said with seriousness.
Tatiana looked at him wide-eyed and laughed nervously. “Ah...that.”
She avoided his gaze, but Kai continued to glare at her anyways.
“Do you know how scared I was? I thought I was going to die!” he complained.
Tatiana remembered how she escaped Noah earlier. Well, she did that because she's also scared, so she can't blame Kai for complaining. Noah was just too...intimidating at that time for her to handle.
“You’re just overreacting...” she mumbled.
Kai stood up to express his sentiments. “J, I’m serious! He really was going to kill me!” he continued to whine.
Tatiana felt sorry for Kai, but she's not that sorry to regret what she had done. If anything, she's thankful she wasn't the one who experienced Noah's threatening glares.
“But he didn’t, so all is well,” Tatiana said, trying to sound nonchalant about it.
Kai threw his hands in the air before he sat back down.
“I guess so...but, I was traumatized!" he exclaimed. "You owe me one,” he grumbled and crossed his arms again as he pouted.
Tatiana chuckled at his actions. Sometimes, Kai can just be so childish. But it's one of the many things Tatiana liked about him. He's transparent and true to himself and to others, which is also why he has many friends even back in the South.
Tatiana gave up and asked, “Alright, alright. What do you want?”
Kai then grinned widely.
“I’ll think about it!” he replied, enthusiastically.
Later on, his face became serious when he remembered something. “...Speaking of, I ended up telling His Highness everything... What should we do now?”
Right. Now, His Highness' suspicions are confirmed.
It was something she had already anticipated, but she isn’t sure if it’s something she has to worry about.
Tatiana let out a sigh before answering, “Well, it already happened, so we can’t do anything about it now.”
For the time being, she'll leave things alone and wait to see what His Highness does next. Right now, the most essential thing is to figure out who is responsible for the bombing incident.
Aside from that, she hasn’t gotten any update from Noah and Beatrice yet. She also has to look into that to avoid problems later on.
“Okay, then. But do tell me if you need help.” Kai said.
"Alright, thank you."
.
After their conversation, Tatiana went back to their carriage. However, on her way there, she heard a familiar voice down the hallway.
“Your highness, can I have a word with you?” Lady Beatrice said.
Noah stopped and turned to her. “Lady Taylor, what can I help you with?”
When he looked into her eyes, Noah paused when he felt a strange feeling in his heart. He doesn't know what it is, but it was as though something was pricking his heart.
“Your highness, do you...also feel strange, right now?” Lady Beatrice asked carefully.
Noah furrowed his brows at her question. How did she know that? Is she feeling the same thing as me?
“I don’t think I understand, my lady.”
Lady Beatrice inhaled deeply before answering, “Your highness, do you get a prickling sensation in your heart? Because I had the same experience. I had that same sensation on the previous ball when I accidentally looked into your eyes. It's unusual, and I've questioned everyone I know, but they also don't know about it. I also tried looking into the other people's eyes, but nothing happened. That's why, even if it’s rude, I figured I should ask your highness if you’re experiencing the same thing.”
Noah paused and thought deeply. During the previous ball, he remembered looking at the Lady’s eyes as well. However, he didn’t get this same feeling. So, why is he feeling this now?
“I guess you’re right. However, I don’t know why this happens,” he answered.
Lady Beatrice’s face brightened. “Then, should we find out the reason behind this, your highness?” she asked.
Despite the fact that her top objective was to figure out why they were feeling this way, Lady Beatrice couldn't help but be overjoyed at the prospect of spending more time with His Highness while researching this matter.
Noah, on the other hand, was also curious why they feel this kind of sensation when staring at each other’s eyes. Hence, he has no reason to disagree.
“Alright. I’ll call for you soon to talk about this matter,” he said and excused himself.
Meanwhile, Tatiana was hiding behind a wall. She couldn’t hear their conversation, but from what she’s seeing, she concluded that there was good progress between the two.
It seems I have nothing to worry about. She thought.
Tatiana hoped the two would fall for each other soon. That way, Noah would agree to nullify their engagement, and Tatiana would officially cut off her connection with the main leads. She could then focus on her plans and tackling the main villain.
Tatiana had suspicions that the main villain was responsible for the bombing. But the problem is, except for the descriptions in the story, she has no idea how he looks. Aside from that, she suspected the main villain was collaborating with someone to act as his stooge.
If I want to reach the true villain, I have to first find the puppet.
Tatiana has a long way to go, but at least she’s making progress now that Kai had won the battle. The investigation will continue smoothly, and by the end of it, she’s hoping she could have a lead, at the very least.
