CHAPTER 38  “Kai,” Tatiana called as she entered the waiting room.  Kai looked at her and stood up to greet her.  “My lady, what are you doing here?” he asked.  He led her to the sitting area and sat across her.  “How are you feeling?”   Kai stared at her for a few seconds before looking down at his hands. He sighed.  “Nervous,” he answered. “I really don’t want to...lose.”   Tatiana could understand why Kai is being like this. He must be feeling extreme pressure since this fight does not only concern him. If he loses, he will die, and the Crown Prince will be in trouble too. Aside from that, he may think Tatiana would be disappointed in him. It was Tatiana who asked for this favor, in the first place.  Should I have not asked him?   At that time, Tatiana only thought about how she could resolve the issue with ‘Julio’. However, she should have known how this would affect him. Kai has always been like this.  Although he’s playful and acts like a child at times, he’s actually sensitive and considerate towards others. Even in the novel, he was that cute type of character that is friends with everyone and the one who usually lightens up the mood. And even if it means he’ll suffer, he will still put other people before himself.  That’s why it was easy for Tatiana to become friends with him. He’s easy to get along with, and he’s kind.   But maybe I took his kindness for granted...I didn't think ahead and put him into this situation...I’m sorry, Kai.  Tatiana leaned forward and reached for Kai’s hand. Kai looked at her, and she gave him a comforting smile.  “You won’t lose, Kai. I believe in you,” she said.  Kai took a deep breath again. He nodded and smiled back at Tatiana.  Although Kai is a year older than Tatiana, she was the mature one between them. Every time he feels down, it was Tatiana who comforted and supported him. He's always grateful for her, that's why he didn't hesitate when Tatiana asked him for a favor. But now, Tatiana is worried for him again.  “Don’t worry, J. I can do it. I won’t let you down.” Kai said, livelier this time. “Besides, if I win, maybe I’ll finally become a real knight,” he added and smiled positively.  Tatiana smiled back. She’s relieved now that Kai is becoming his old self again.  “Hmm...now that you’ve mentioned it, I actually have the same thought." Tatiana sat up straight and looked at him, cheery. "If you win, His Highness might take you in as a royal knight. But if he doesn’t...then I’ll just take you!” she added and smiled smugly.  Kai laughed and nod his head.  “Then, I’ll look forward to becoming your knight, my lady.” he played along.   They talked a bit more about what Kai should do during the fight when Tatiana noticed the time. She stood up and prepared herself to leave. Kai followed her and stood up as well. “Alright, the fight will start soon. I’ll leave you now, so you could prepare,” she said. “Good luck, Kai. I'll see you outside.”   Kai nodded. He walked her to the door and said, “Thank you, J. See you,"  Tatiana smiled at him before she left.  .  “Your highness? What are you doing here?” Aaron, who just entered the waiting room where Noah was, asked.  Noah stood up and faced him. He didn’t answer and only raised an eyebrow while tucking his hand into his pocket.  Aaron looked around before he walked closer to Noah, confused.  “Have you seen Tatiana, your highness?” he asked again. Noah stared at him for a couple of seconds before he answered plainly, “She’s not here,” Aaron frowned.  Hmm...the fight will start soon, where could she be? The fight will begin soon, so Aaron went out to look for Tatiana. He heard His Highness escort her to the Cromello's waiting room, so she should be here.  Speaking of His Highness, Aaron looked at him suspiciously. "Then, what are you still doing here, your highness?” he inquired. “It’s none of your business.” Noah cleared his throat before walking away quickly.  Aaron stared at his back, confused.  What was that?  ---  reyankleyr
