CHAPTER 34
“State your name and where did you come from.” the interrogator said to Kai.
“I am Kael of the House Arder from the South. I only came here to the capital to visit a friend.” Kai answered simply.
House of Arder is a small Baron House in the South. They don't have much significance because their title was bestowed upon them as a reward for Kai's father's charitable work. To put it another way, the House of Arder is not affiliated with any of the factions and has no political influence.
As such, the officials can’t help but question what is a man from such a house has anything to do with the bombing incident.
“I mentioned in our previous meeting that I was almost shot by an arrow that led me to the assassins. What wasn't disclosed, however, was how we were able to catch those apparently skilled assassins sent to kill me and cause a disturbance in the capital.” Noah said.
The officials nodded in agreement. Although it was true that the procedure of apprehending the assassins was not revealed, no one noticed or raised a question. This was because they had automatically assumed that the Crown Prince and his knights defeated them.
“Contrary to what you may have expected, it was not me nor any of the knights who fought with the assassins and caught them. When my party arrived at the scene, the assassins were already beaten up and lifelessly laying on the ground. The knights can testify to this.”
Noah's words shocked the officials. They are fully aware that those assassins were highly skilled, given how they were able to create such a ruckus in the capital and almost kill the Crown Prince. As such, defeating such professional assassins requires a high level of skills in fighting.
In the empire, only few people were recognized as talented in fighting. The Crown Prince was obviously the first on the list followed by Lord Aaron, Lord Adam from House Lankinson, and Sir Charles Young. The rest were all members of the royal knights. However, if it wasn’t the Crown Prince or the knights, then who could it be?
“With that said, I have also conducted a separate investigation to find the person who was able to defeat those assassins before us. It didn’t take us that long, however, as Kael Arder came to me and confessed everything.” Noah paused and looked around. “Kael Arder was the one who solely fought against the assassins leaving most of them unwounded and only unconscious on the ground. It was also him who mentioned the name ‘Julio’ as his alias to those assassins.”
With that, the official's outburst filled the hall. It was a total plot twist that no one expected.
In just 5 minutes, they heard several revelations that completely changed the course of the discussion. To begin with, the assassins were not apprehended by the Crown Prince. Second, a man from a small Baron House appeared out of nowhere and revealed himself to be the one who had fought the assassins. Finally, the 'Julio' they were looking for turned out to be the same man who had defeated the assassins.
As new information came after another, the officials were increasingly puzzled.
Now, it all comes down to one question: which one is the truth and which one is the lie?
