Awakening

[Haley's POV] Asher and I arrived at school the next morning. We had arrived an hour earlier than usual as Asher was going to start working on his project with his group. "Take this. It took me two hours to find so I hope you read it well." He groaned at the time he wasted yesterday as he handed me his grandma's book. My eyes were sparkling out of excitement as we waved goodbye to each other. I was sitting by myself in the cafeteria eating some breakfast that we bought on the way to school. I was reading the book while taking lots of notes. Everything I knew about vampires felt like a complete lie. The two chairs at the other side of the table suddenly got pulled out. I looked up to see Felix and Nathan sitting down. The younger blonde boy waved at me while the cold one looked away. "Hey Haley, what are you up to? We don't start school before an hour." He cheekily said. "I got here with Asher. He was going to meet his group this morning, so that's why I'm here." I explained as I turned back to my book. I really just wanted to read in peace. Nathan leaned closer to me over the table. "What are you reading?" Nathan suddenly asked, which made me surprised. I looked back up to see him stare down at my book. "Oh, it's just some book that I got from a friend." I nervously laughed. I started to flip around in my notebook as I got back to the page about the noblesse. I had forgotten to write down that they form contracts with vampires to make them soul bound creatures. I simply wrote 'contract = soul bound' before turning back to my book about vampires as I glued my eyes to it. The table was quiet as I could hear heavy irregular breathing on the other side of the table. I looked up to see both the boys look more pale than usual. Their eyes were staring down at my notebook. "Is something wrong?" I asked carefully. Them both looked back up at me nervously. I swear that I saw Felix's eyes flash red for a millisecond as I blinked twice. Nathan nervously laughed, showing his teeth. "Wow, Nathan, your teeth look like small fangs it's so cute!" I exclaimed at the taller boy. His smile dropped as he stood up while Felix mimicked the older boy. I tilted my head before they both quickly walked out of the cafeteria, leaving me all alone with my book. (㇏(•̀ᵥᵥ•́)ノ) An hour had passed as I happily started to pack together my things. I headed towards my locker as Asher hadn't arrived yet. I pulled out my things for the first period, and I also brought the book from Asher to class. I sat down at my desk and quickly opened the book again, eager to continue to read. Asher walked inside the classroom and sat down, followed by his project group. I waved at him happily as I showed him how much I had read. He looked surprised at me as we both giggled at each other. I felt Felix's stare at the other side of the classroom. I waved at him, making him surprised as Asher turned his attention to the boy before rolling his eyes. Class had started but I was too busy with reading the book. My eyes widened as I read a specific part about the noblesse. 'Before biting another creature, the vampire will silently whisper the words 'bless the noblesse.' That way, they will prevent themselves from biting a noblesse. If the person is a sealed noblesse, they will awaken, making it known to the vampire to retreat.' I loudly gasped as I covered my mouth. I knew how to awaken myself. "Haley, is there something you wanna share with the class?" My history teacher asked as the whole class looked at me. I quickly shook my head as I tried to calm down. The teacher went back to teaching as I pulled out my notebook. I quickly flipped through it to find the page about the noblesse. I wrote down 'Bless the noblesse' as I circled it a few times. I felt an intense stare from my right side. I looked up to see Seth observing my page in the notebook. His eyebrows were furrowed, but his eyes showed fear. I ignored him as I tried to focus on the class. (㇏(•̀ᵥᵥ•́)ノ) Class ended, and I quickly took my things as I grabbed Asher's wrist while leading him out to the soccer field. He was shouting at me but I didn't listen, I needed to tell him. I stopped when we were far away enough from the students. I opened my notebook and shoved it in his face. "I know how to awaken, look!" I exclaimed as he looked at my notes. He dropped my notebook as he sat down on the ground. I sat down with him as I held his hand. "I need a vampire to do it so it won't be easy anyway." I tried to comfort him. He started crying as he hugged me tightly. I wrapped my arms around him as we stayed like that for a few minutes. It couldn't be that bad to awaken? (㇏(•̀ᵥᵥ•́)ノ) I held Asher's hand as we walked to the cafeteria. We sat down at an empty table beside each other so I could hold his hand for comfort while eating. Soon, the table was filled with the exchange students in our class. I looked at them, confused over why they sat here. "Hey Haley, I thought we could sit here to discuss our project." Ace happily said as he sat down in front of me. Asher's grip on my hand got tighter by each word that came out of the blonde guy's mouth. I nodded at his explanation. "Can I have your number? So I can text you our address and the time for Saturday." He continued as he had pulled out his phone in advance. I took it and put in my number. I felt tension in the air as Asher had stopped eating. He stared intensely at the boys. "I have the movie at home so I'll bring it with me." I said as I smiled at my project partners. We were soon interrupted by a voice. "Please, Haley, I know that I'm not your type as I can see that you're sitting with plenty of handsome guys, but please accept this confession!" It was the same boy as every day. I turned around to see him doing his casual bow as he held out a box with chocolate covered strawberries. He had listened to Asher's harsh words from yesterday. I took the box from him but didn't turn around back to the table. "What's your name?" I asked as gently as I could. His head shot up from staring at the ground to look me in the eyes. He stood there silently for a while before I tilted my head, waiting for an answer. M-my name? It's Theo." He said while blushing furiously. I nodded at the younger boy as I tried to put his name on my memory. "I'll see you around Theo. Thank you for the strawberries." I said as I waved at him while he started to walk away. I turned around back to the table as I gently threw the box on the table. I let out a loud sigh while realizing that all the attention was on me around the table. "You guys can have them. I feel bad for enjoying his gifts while he's waiting for me to accept him." I simply said while shrugging. I stood up as Asher did the same. His face still looked cold. I grabbed his hand before we started to walk away. "Text me later!" I yelled to Ace while waving at him. I needed to get Asher away.
