Early in the morning my mom was planning to flee from her house to meet Timothy, but I stopped her. I don't want to see her being abused again. Not in my control. But she was resisting, and I just sighed. This is my mother's life at all, so at the very least I let her talk with Timothy by telephone. I reset myself for a while and allowed her to take full control of her body. "Timothy, it's me, Carolyne. I will not be able to meet you today because my instinct stopped me." "It's okay with me, as long as you are safe. How are you? " "I'm fine. My parents went out for groceries, and I'm cleaning our house. " "Gracious. I'm so worried about you! Glad you are safe! Let's meet when we have free time, shall we?" Was it Timothy talking to my mom or Jack talking to me? "I love you, Amber." My heart throbbed fast. Surely it can't be Jack. My mother's second name is Amber too. But something pushed me to take control of my mom's words. "I love you too." I spoke. I'm hoping that it wasn't Jack. Please, I will cease to exist right now. "Glad to hear that, Sam." I ended the call as soon as I heard footsteps. Freak. Jerk. I couldn't even sleep properly because of happiness. Finally, it's my turn. I brought my grandmother's short stories about my mom with me. It was not fully explained, but I fully know that her father was the reason why my mom suffered. From my grandmother's story, her father saw her and Jack's dad hugging on my Mom's eighteenth birthday, so he dragged her out and slapped her so hard that she lost her balance and fell with her head straight to the floor. And I wouldn't let that happen. I am with my mom's friends right now. It was Celine who called her a flirt, so I want to do the honor for my mom. "Why did you wear that outfit, Celine?" Our friends looked at us. "W-why?" "I mean nothing, you just look like mud." And everyone started to laugh. Jack, I mean, Timothy held my mom's hand as he pinned my hair on my ear. "Let's be ourselves with them." I was not able to understand him, but I shifted my mom's mind equally. Half is for me and the other half is for her. "Carol, you said you love me too. Was that for real? " "No, I'm just joking." "Your words are kind of bold," Tim started laughing. 'Calm yourself, Sam. Let them enjoy this moment while we're enjoying ours.' I smiled when I came up with something. "Jack, what if I fall in love with your dad?" "What?!" I badly wanted to laugh. Gross! "Stop yourself, Sam. You're mine." "Who said what?!" "Haha! I was the one who said, "I love you." My father never called your mom, Amber-it was a trick, you know, and you bit it. " Now that I can control my mom's body, I slapped his arm. "Aww, what was that for Carol?" "I'm sorry, Timothy. Something pushed me." Jack laughed and held my hand again. No, I mean, Timothy-ugh! I hate this. We enjoyed the day together. We spent the day waiting for the sunset on the sea and the night counting stars in the night sky. For a moment, I felt like we own this body, and we are free. It's good to be here, and we still have seven days before our bodies go back to our timeline. A few days from now will be my mom's birthday. Have we really changed the flow of their stories? Can we really do this? I looked at Jack, who had been quiet for a long time. He looked back at me and smiled sadly. "What's with the long face?" "I know it's a bit weird, but we have been here together for two years and eight months. That means our bodies have not taken any baths for those years. " I laughed, "Oh, shut up!" I repressed myself by smiling. That's just how fast it is. Time will still fly by even without our breath. "But really, Sam? I'm scared. You know, I'm kind of reluctant to do this. If I chose to follow my father's last wish and they were married that means that we would not be alive." I halt for a while, "I know. But wasn't that the reason why we are here? To change their story? " "But what about our own lives?" "Some things have to end in order for new things to begin." "Are you a martyr?" "A martyr for my mother's love." "But you will not feel her love and hugs once my father and your mom have a happy ending." "If that means her happiness, I am more than willing to offer myself." I stood up as I realized that it was a bit late, but I was shocked when he held my hand and looked at me with sad eyes. In just a snap, I found myself in his arms, hugging me gently and filled with love. "Samantha." "Jack." "Can you hear my heart?" I was silent for a moment, then he said, "I have always been this selfless man who wants to please everyone. But now that I have met you again, I want to be selfish just to hold you in my arms." I found myself dumbfounded by his confession. A tear fell on my eye, and I could not feel anything more than just his arms. "I've liked you since the first time we met. I love you. I want you. I need you. " I removed his arms from my body as I looked into his eyes. "Jack, you need to understand. I'm sorry." The sight of my father in front of my door's chamber stunned me, but I turned my attention to the left corner and attempted to evade him. He softly said, "Tomorrow is your birthday." I took a moment to gaze at him without feeling anything in my stomach. My mother's heart swelled with joy as I listened. Even with all the things he did to her, she still has a strong attachment with her father. I stepped back as the old man approached me softly. He respectfully handed my mother a present wrapped in a crocheted basket as he dropped his head. "I'm sorry, darling. I'm sorry for hurting you." "You are still the best dad," I was going to run away, but my mother's mind urged me to hug his father instead. Afterwards, both of them wept. "We made it, Jack," I sobbed bitterly inside, tears streaming down my cheeks. But I walked away from him. I was so afraid to tell him that I loved him because I didn't want to end up ruining my mother's life again. But Jack persevered. He managed to talk in our minds, even from a distance away. And day by day, he tried to reach out to me, always reminding me of how much he loved me and that we could choose to let the past be what it was and return to our normal lives. But as I saw my mom's reflection in the mirror and how she smiled every time she looked at Timothy's pictures, it's love that cannot be measured, and even if it means being selfless, I would be fine with it if she is happy. But I know that my heart is working against my mind. And so that night, I let myself see Jack for the last time and told him that I had already made my decision. It's the last day of our souls in this world, and once it reaches the sunrise, we will be back to our normal lives with everything changed... or maybe not. Jack hugged me as soon as he saw me. I put my mom's soul to sleep so that I can fully control my body. And as he held my hand, we told each other that whatever happens, we will always be together. "But perhaps we have already lived our lives, Jack. I want to be selfish and choose you, but wasn't it already being selfish by controlling their paths? "I lowered my head as tears dripped from my eyes. "I'm sorry, Jack. But this world is meant for our parents' love stories and not ours." "I want to make my mother's life better. I was the reason why all these things happened to her. Jack, I could never endure seeing her in that way again when I had been given another chance to change her life. I want her to live happily, and I know that that's also the least thing you want to do for your father." The sun is already rising. "But how about me, Sam? How about us? " "Isn't this such a good memory to treasure?" "No, Sam. I have spent my entire life pleasing other people. This is the first time that I decided for myself and I want you to be part of it! I want you to be part of my life! " "But this is not our story! This is not our world! " "Please, Sam. Let's choose ourselves. Even for once." We cried our hearts out as we hugged each other. "I love you, Jack. But we are here to change something. Maybe it's not yet our time. Maybe we're meant for greater things." "No, Sam. Please...." "If I were given the chance to choose between my life and my mother, I would always choose her happiness." I gently touched his face. "Even if it means changing their story will make us suffer and even cease to exist. In our different timelines and world, please always remember that this day has existed. Look at the sky and promise me that in another life we will have our happily ever after. But for now, we'll do our part as their child. " "I love you, Samantha. I love you. I love you." He said as he kissed my forehead, eyes, nose and lips. "Let's touch the sky together, my love." I wiped away his tears. And as the light of the sun reached our souls, we lost consciousness as we saw our parents running away with a big smile on their faces. We made it. I made it, Mom. Please live your life happily.
