Kess rubbed her aching thighs with her hands, as they stopped for another quick break. They had climbed up and down, and across so many steps, she wasn’t sure if they were up or down, below or back at their starting point.
Above, the dark purple clouds streaked with gray, twisted, and churned. Now and then, something would catch her eye as it flew over the precipice.
“It appears; we are descending deeper into this bottomless abyss,” Rakmor said tiredly.
“Sometimes it looks and feels like we are going upward.” She sighed deeply.
