The Awakening and the Bond

That night, a violent thunderstorm swept across the mountain campus. Lightning split the dark sky, followed by thunder that shook the windows of Lunarcrest Academy. Unable to sleep, Clara slipped out of her dormitory and wandered into the courtyard. She had always loved the rain. It was one of the few sounds she could enjoy without feeling excluded by her own silence. She tilted her face toward the sky, allowing the cold rain to wash over her. Then BOOM. A deafening explosion tore through the night. Clara spun around. The academy's outer iron gates had been blasted open. Smoke poured through the entrance. Figures moved inside it. Too many. A low howl echoed across the courtyard. Rogues. Students began screaming as chaos erupted across the campus. Clara froze for half a second. Then she saw him. Lucian. He emerged from the smoke like a force of nature, already shifting into battle mode as he moved toward the attacking pack. Get the students inside! he roared. His Alpha command shook the courtyard. Several attackers staggered beneath the pressure of his aura. Lucian struck the first rogue before he could reach the dormitories. Another came from the side. Lucian turned and took him down. But he didn't see the third attacker. The rogue leader emerged from behind him, gripping a silver blade coated in black wolfsbane. Clara's eyes widened. Lucian! He turned too late. The blade tore across his chest. Lucian staggered. The rogue disappeared back into the chaos. Lucian dropped to one knee. His hand pressed against the wound as dark veins began spreading beneath his skin. The wolfsbane was already entering his bloodstream. Clara ran. She didn't think. She didn't hesitate. She simply moved. A fallen iron bar lay near the shattered gate. She grabbed it with both hands. The rogue leader turned toward her. Clara swung. CRACK. The iron struck the back of his head. He collapsed into the mud. Clara dropped the bar and rushed to Lucian's side. He was barely conscious. Dark poison crawled across his chest. His breathing was becoming weaker. Clara's hands trembled. No. Not him. Not Lucian. She pressed both palms against the wound. Nothing happened. "Please," she whispered. Her voice barely existed. Then something inside her answered. Warmth spread through her hands. A golden glow appeared beneath her palms. Clara stared in disbelief. The light grew brighter. Brighter. Until the entire courtyard was illuminated by a brilliant golden radiance. The poison began retreating. Lucian's wounds started closing beneath her hands. The dark veins disappeared. His breathing steadied. And then The light exploded outward. Every person in the courtyard stopped. For one impossible moment, Clara stood at the center of the storm, surrounded by golden light. An ancient power. A power believed to have vanished generations ago. The Golden Healing Aura. The light slowly faded. Clara swayed. Lucian caught her before she could fall. Their eyes met. And the world seemed to stop. Something invisible snapped into place between them. A golden thread. A bond. It pulsed once. Then again. Lucian's eyes widened. His wolf rose violently beneath his skin. Mate. The word echoed through his mind. Clara felt it too. Not as a sound. As a certainty. A truth written somewhere deeper than thought. Her eyes widened. Lucian stared at her as though seeing her for the first time. The quiet girl. The woman who had rebuilt herself. The warrior who had just saved his life. His mate. Footsteps thundered across the courtyard. Students and instructors rushed toward them. Julian appeared among the crowd. He stopped dead. His face drained of color as he stared at Clara. The girl he had called a nobody was standing beneath the fading golden light. And Lucian the most powerful Alpha in the academy—was holding her as though letting her go was no longer an option. Whispers spread through the courtyard. That was healing magic. Impossible. That power disappeared centuries ago. She's a Golden Healer. And also the Alpha's mate !! Julian couldn't speak. For once, he had nothing to say. Lucian slowly stood, keeping Clara close enough to steady her but giving her space to breathe. His silver eyes swept across the gathered students. Then they settled on Julian. Cold. Unforgiving. But when he looked back at Clara, something in his expression softened. He reached for her hand. Their fingers intertwined. The golden bond between them pulsed again. The golden light slowly faded. Clara swayed. Her strength disappeared all at once. Before her knees could hit the ground, Lucian caught her. "Clara." Her eyes fluttered. She tried to steady herself, but her body refused to cooperate. Without hesitation, Lucian slipped one arm beneath her knees and the other around her back. He lifted her effortlessly into his arms. Cradled against his chest, Clara looked up at him through rain-soaked lashes. For a moment, neither of them moved. Lucian stared down at her. The woman he had watched from the shadows. The woman he had seen broken, then rebuilt herself piece by piece. The woman who had just saved his life. His mate. The word echoed through his mind again. Mate. Clara felt it too. That invisible connection between them pulsed warmly through her chest. Her fingers instinctively curled into the front of his shirt. Lucian tightened his hold slightly, protective but gentle. Around them, the courtyard had fallen completely silent. Dozens of students stared. Julian stood among them, pale and speechless. The girl he had once abandoned on a cold sidewalk was now being carried in the arms of the most powerful Alpha at Lunarcrest Academy. And Lucian wasn't hiding the way he looked at her. His silver eyes held something no one had ever seen there before. Tenderness. Possessiveness. Wonder. He lowered his gaze to Clara. "You're safe," he murmured. Clara's eyes softened. For once, she didn't need words. She simply rested her head against his chest. And beneath the thunderous sky, the bond between them pulsed again.
