Esme Carmichael The host son and the richest bachelor in New York his piercing eyes met mine and he made me feel like he could see right through me. Being unfortunate has always been one of my many talents, but this was the height of it all, I mean I freaking poured champagne on my employers son, someone kill me. I raised my gaze towards him, his piecing amber eyes distracting me from the surprised on lookers, his jaw clenched as his eyes blazed with fury, o my I made him angry. “Why are you such a clumsy fool.” The shrill voice of Ray snapped my gaze towards her smug looking face, I inwardly rolled my eyes at her pettiness. “Mind your business Raya..” I said with a huff before turning returning my gaze towards Kairos.. “I apologize Mr Morano.” I added guiltily my mind racing with a thousand thoughts. What if this gives my brand a bad name. My business will probably be over. Why me.. I thought my mind reeling with all the negatives but the sound of my sister voice broke me out of my thought. “What do you think your stupid worry is going to fix Esmemine, you f*****g spilled champagne on his Armani suit, the least you could do is to take the suit and clean it up.” Raya sneered as she stood besides Kairos her face condescending. I felt a surge of anger at Raya’s words but I bit back my retort turning to Mr. Morano “I don’t mind cleaning your suit Sir.” “I could careless about the suit, but I expect more care in the future.” Kairos said his gaze still settled in me as they swirled with something akin to interest, but I shook the thought away as he could possibly be interested in someone like me. Raya snorted narrowing her gaze at me before turning to Kairos . “You are too kind Kairos, low class event planners like her should know their place and she is clearly incompetent. “I’m afraid Raya is right Kairos, because what kind of person pours champagne on their host and all she could offer was probably a half hearted sorry.” My mother stepped in her shoulders hanging with pride and her chin up in distaste. “That’s enough..I could careless about the champagne or a half hearted sorry.” Kairos said dusting his shirt. “And by the way…it’s Mr. Morano to you.” He said before walking away and I could help but let out a sigh of relief as i scuffled out of the room lowering my head in shame. As I stumbled into one of the bathrooms the sound of Bing Crosby’s white Christmas a contrast to the turmoil brewing inside me. I took in a deep breath trying to calm myself down, the smell of pine and cinnamon wafting from the bathrooms freshener, a smell that usually filled me with holiday cheer only made me queasy and nauseous. What if Kairos Hernandez’s father finds out about what happened will it ruin my name, and what if my name was already ruined, I shook my head as I felt something lodge in my throat my faced twisted in disgust as I bent my head over the sink emptying my stomach. As I retched, the sound of my vomiting echoing in the bathroom making my stomach churn as more tears danced in my eyes, redeeming them, “Gosh I hate this.” I whisper raising as I walked towards the sink as I splashed water on my face, the sound of the ships engine humming softly in the background reminding me that we where sailing thorough the night, I raised my head to look at the mirror, expecting to see my pale sweaty reflection staring back at me. But instead,I was met with the sight that made my breath hitch, staring at me through the mirror was Kairos, his amber eyes fixed intently on my pale face, his chisels features expressionless, yet somehow he seems intimidating. He stood frozen, his broad shoulder resting on the door way his eyes never leaving mine as if daring me to look away. “What are you doing here?” I questioned trying to break the suffocating silence, but he just continued staring at me his hands stuck in the pockets of his black slacks, I was about to question him again when he spoke his voice equally questioning. “I have to clean the mess you made, don’t I?” I took in a deep breath to calm my racing heart that picked up at the sound of his deep voice. “That’s right Sir, why don’t I help you with that.” I said as I watched his jaw clench at me calling him Sir. “No need… Esme .” He whispered and I felt a flutter in my chest at the sound of my name escaping his lips. “I insist, I mean it’s the least I could do after ruining your suit.” I said wetting a small towel and approaching him, as I reached him I immediately placed the towel on the stained part of the suit as I cleaned it ignoring the bundle of muscle under the suit. “Are you sick .” His deep voice made me halt in my action as I closed my eyes taking a deep breath before responding. “No I’m not, I vomit when I am nervous or scared.” I whispered as he affirmed with a hum, and I continued cleaning his suit. “Do I scare you?.” He questioned once more and I let out a sigh before turning my head to look at him. “No you don’t ” I asked c*****g my head with a mocking smile. “Then why were you vomiting.” He said with a smug smile, pushing my hair to the back of my ear, his eyes locked with mine, as the endless pool of amber pulled me in. “Well I am scared of losing this contract or worsen my non existent reputation, my business is already bad as it is and pouring champagne on the host son wasn’t the best thing yet so yeah.” I said in one breath and I watched him nod his head as if taking in what I said. “Well what if I tell you I can help you with your business.” He asked as he removed the towel from my fingers before grasping them. “How so?” “Be my girlfriend!”
