Despite his work with the University, Jim spent more and more time travelling to deliver lectures and spent less and less time at home with Annabel and Olivia.
When he was at home, much of the time seemed to be spent arguing with Annabel. He tired of the arguments which always revolved around the same subject, how much his work was taking him away from home. Jim became frustrated because no matter how many ideas Annabel had regarding what he should do with her and Olivia, she failed, in his mind, to offer any solutions for how they should earn sufficient money if he were to reduce his obligations.
“When you are at home, you don’t spend time with us,” she complained. “You are always fiddling with your projects in the garden like that ridiculous composting toilet.”
