It relieved Jim to return to Trawden for a brief break and he brought with him many items that he had been collecting in Newcastle, including pvc pipes and valves and empty jam jars.
“Why do you keep filling the house with all this junk?” complained Olivia, who had organised a trip home from university, together with Ryan, for the same weekend.
“It’s not junk,” said Jim. “The pipes are for our water harvesting system and the jam jars are for preserving and pickling.”
“I don’t see why you need all this stuff.”
“You will when they stop pumping water up here and it’s already difficult to find everything you need in the shops.”
