ALEXANDER POV I paced back and forth in my office, the events of the morning playing over in my mind. Miss Gift had left the packhouse in anger, and her accusations against Laura were alarming. I couldn’t shake the image of her standing there, strong and determined, confronting Laura without hesitation. It made my heart pound with a mix of admiration and guilt. I knew I had to find out more about her, and more importantly, protect her. I had other responsibilities to attend to first, though.
