I had just taken Celia home from the hospital before dashing off to work, stepping into my office, Gabrielle, my assistants walked in, her usual efficiency in full force as she started listing out my schedule for the day. I nodded along, barely paying attention, my mind already occupied with other thoughts, thoughts of Lily, thoughts of Emma.
Then, my phone rang.
My pulse quickened when I saw Emma’s name flash across the screen. I held up a hand, dismissing Gabrielle before answering.
"Hello, Em." My voice came out smoother than I expected, betraying none of the excitement I felt at hearing from her.
